Anyone here go HID's in their P5?

i got a question, and it may seem like a newbie one but i see all these HID kits on ebay for like 50 or 60 bucks and they look like real HID's and they come with the ballasts and everything, can someone confirm that these are real or fake?

Just ordered the 4300K H7 kit for the low beams. With Holiday shipping, I'm hoping it shows up soon. As soon as it does, I'll be taking comparison shots. I've got stock bulbs in wifey's car, right now I've got Silver Star Ultras, then, I'll have the HID setup. Stay tuned.

Oh, and upgrading the fogs to PIAA Ion yellow fogs and bending the little tab inside up.

And, I'll be doing the "Fogs always on" mod so I can run em seperate.

i got the same bulbs in my fogs with the fog light mod as well. i can tell you now you almost wont need headlights at night lol, these bulbs are very bright, i usually drive around with just the fogs on because they light up the road sufficently enough

The kits on Ebay are real HID kits. But, as with everything, you get what you pay for. I had an Ebay kit on my CBR and within 3 months, the ballast went out. I've read similiar reports elsewhere on the web. So, rather than spend the $60 bucks twice, go with Xenon Expert and get a year warranty or, for $35 more, life time warranty.

I got em put in. But, was too gentle on bending the tab so I gotta redo it again. That and aim the whole fog up a little. Either way, here's a pic I snapped lastnight.

Oh ok well i guess that im gonna be going with Xenon Expert then, ill prob get an ebay kit for my brother to see how long they last lol

I saw a ridiculous improvement in my visibility compared to halogen. I will never go back to regular lighting again. A projector set up would be sweet to concentrate the beam and have a nice cut off line - but frankly I'm pretty happy as is.

Please please please do not put HID's in a housing that was not designed for them. IF you're going to do it, do it right and either pick up a set of projectr headlights that have a proper cutoff, or retrofit some projector housings into yours. I'm amazed at how many people just drop HID's into standard headlights and have no concern for the glare that it causes......

Protege 5 headlights, while not designed for HID's, handle them remarkably well. The light distribution is nearly identical to the halogen bulbs. Only difference is intensity of the light.

As stated earlier however, if your car uses an H4 hi-low style bulb, no HID's do not work. It's like driving around with your high and low beam on at the same time.

Best example is when I had an HID kit in my H4 bulb headlight on my CBR.

You can see the high and low beam pattern at the same time

This pic was taken the day it was installed. I did lower the headlight so it was like my high's were my low's. Horrible light distribution to the sides. But, it was good straight ahead of me. I only rode in the city and not the country, so,it wasn't too bad.

Yeah...you like that hotspot don't you! Don't be jealous. You and your nice even light distribution with a sharp cutoff!!!

If you aim then down a little bit more than usual it takes care of that.

Oh well I search google for Xenon Expert and I found this website.
http://www.xenonexpert.com/
It has three conversion kits: Philips, DDM, and Apexcone. Which one do you have?
Is there any difference between the kits?
Again, it's like change the halogen bulb but one more step that connect the harness to the ballast right?
Also, anyone try the bi-xenon ones? Sounds like it can change both Hi and Lo at once?

Man, I am jealous for that light output.

Yeah, that's where I ordered from. You could have looked in the Approved Vendors section on the board. He's on here. There's actually a group buy good till the end of Dec. that gets you the DDM kit by Apexcone for $130 shipped(which is what I'm running).

As to the install, it's pretty straight forward, but I do HIGHLY recomend taking off the bumper to get the headlights off the car. MUCH easier, and you can hide the ballasts in the process.

But, yes, replace bulb, cut slot in the plastic seal on the back to slide out 2 wires that plug into the stock headlight plug, then, plug in the balasts. That's it, you're done.

And as to the Bi-xenon, it won't work in a Pro5 housing because we have a seperate high beam and low beam.

If you've got any other questions, feel free to post em up! And, feel free to ask the Xenon Expert guys anything. They're very knowldgeable, but, give em afew days to reply. It's taken 2 on average each time I contacted them.

Alright, finally got outside lastnight to snap some shots comparing the bulbs I've got. I've got stock in the passenger side of the wife's pro5, silverstar Ultras in the driver's side, and the Apexcone 35watt 4300K HID setup in my car.

thats the same beam pattern my hids have. plus i haven't had any issues with them blinding opposing traffic. mine are turned down enough that it doesnt blind others yet it still lights up brighter and further than my halogens.

I'm thinking about getting HID's, but just put them in my fogs, that way I can use them when I need em. Plus they are substatianly lower compared to the headlights so though should help the glare. Any opinions? I'm thinking about getting the kit from theRPMstore. They have an option of purchasing the relay with this kit. What would the relay do in this case, help from blowing my bulbs? Thanks

If you guys are thinking about getting an HID kit, go to the Approved Vendors section on the main page. Click Exterior. Protophile has a group buy going right now for kits.

As to Retrosolutions, i've been talking with him alot afew months ago when I was contemplating getting an RSX. He's good, but not so cheap. I looked around and he's selling a TechOne 35 watt HID kit for $230!!! Protophile is selling a TechOne 35 watt HID kit for $99 shipped!!
