anyone heard an alpine PLT-5?

Thinking about putting some sort of sub into my truck and I just got an email from crutchfield today with a good deal on the Alpine PLT-5

Its a great price, its small and compact (might fit on the floor behind my front seat and in front of the back seat) and comes all amplified and ready to roll. It has some great reviews on cruthfield, has anyone here heard it?

I think josh (altspace) had the same thing in his RX8 but with a bigger sub instead of the bunch of 5" woofers which is the case with the PLT-5.

They claim it provides the sound of a pair of 10s.

The alternative would be a thunderform which would probably run me 250
plus 2x8"s or 1x10" plus an amp. So 300 with no tax or shipping for the Alpine sounds pretty sweet.

The only thing that concerns me is the frequency response is NA! It probably will not play very low with 6 inch woofers, somewhere in the 40-50 Hz range at lowest if I had to guess.

I heard the one Josh (altspace) had in his RX-8. The rest of his system was stock and it was more than enough bass to compliment it. It didn't hit as tight as say a sealed 10" or 12" sub but it was deeper than I expected.

Yea, I had the PLT-7. After playing around with all the settings I think I got it just right and the thing pounded! Of course this was the bigger model with larger subs and 500 watt power. My only 2 issues were weight and size (though very small for what it is). The PLT-7 weighs in at 70lbs and took up most of my small trunk space. Just search for Alpine PLT-7 in this thread.

I would love to hear how the PLT-7 would sound in my car. Then I could ditch my subs...hmmmmm.

I have to say, after owning the other Alpine unit this one is becoming quite tempting to me.

i didnt go through with it only because all told, including installation i was looking at about 1,000 for a HU, 2 spkrs and this sub system for my truck....which I only paid like 7k for and is only worth like 5k right now....couldnt bring myself ot do it.

If crutch still has these at this price u should jump on it, 300 bucks is a cheap experiment if you dont like it IMO
