I drive a caution cone
Just started this week. At random times it would grind going in to reverse. Has not done this before until just recently.

Anyone have this problems?

My P5 does this once in a blue. Usually after its rained and the car has sat for a while. Try reversing after driving for a while and see if it happens. If it is only occuring when you haven't driven for a while its the oxidation on the rotors and is prolly nothing to worry about.

something similar happens to me, i put it in reverse and start backing out and it makes this like scratchy grinding noise i noticed then that shifter was not properly enganging into reverse so i put in in netural ran it through all the gears then put it in reverse (takes a lil extra force to get it all in there) and it works fine. This might not be the problem with you but just to let you know if it is then its just the tranny not fully engaging in the gear

try this

This used to happen to me yet once i listen to a tip from my friend it stopped. Whewn motro is running before u gointo reverse. engage the cluth put the shifter to first then reverse. It shouldnt grind then. It was happenining to me all the time yet then when i started that it hasn't happened again yet.

s*** my trans became very clunky and notchy lately too. I just passed like 35k miles. I noticed it would grind into second once in a while now and third but only at the end of the shift action. I think this happens because the engine moves a lot between shifts and the shifter rob binds and twists in ackward way putting more stress on the sincros. But as far as you problems with reverse gear not sure on that. Have you tried synthetic trans fluid?

I noticed this s*** too, for 1st to 2nd shifts. It happens more when i'm driving slower. But i started paying attention to exactly what i'm doing when it happens. Sometimes when i'm taking left hand turns and shifting to 2nd. Straight aways too sometimes.

first of all reverse doesn't have a syncro so the wheels have to be stopped to engage reverse (smoothly) and if you are backing up and the shifter doesn't engage fully just keep alittle pressure on the shifter and let out of the clutch alittle and it will allow the shafts in the tranny align and advance so the gear can be selected (remember there are 3 shaft's engaged when reverse is happening (tolerances) and mt-90 will help everything

It hasn't grinded yet [knock on wood] but sometimes it will go half way and get "stuck" so I put it in first and then reverse and it goes it like it should. However sometimes when I pull it out of reverse it takes a lot of effort and I usually end up going into 5th.

even on my cavalier i had the same issue. if u put it into first (with clutch pressed) and then to reverse it doenst grind. ive never had a problem. and after like 2 months of doin it it becomes second nature and u dont even notice ur doin it. woot.

no synchro = problems you are experiencing that aren't really problems, its a known thing with manual transmissions.
