Anyone elses clearcoat comming off the rims?

I saw today that the clear coat is comming off one of my rims. It is comming off in 2 different spots on the rim too. Has this happened to anyone else???The car has only 5k miles on it and I dont think this should be happening. Should I go to mazda and demand that I get the rim replaced? I have had many OEM rims and aftermarket rims on my mustangs and lincolns and nothing like that has ever happened to them. Does anyone here have a set that they would be wanting to sell?? Any ideas what to do??

Yes, it's happening to me too.

It's very frustrating to me because I take excellent care of them. I don't use any pressure washers or harsh chemicals. In fact, the only thing that I have ever used to clean them with is plain car soap and water. The same thing is also starting to happen to my 2001 Monte Carlo. I only have about 6,000 miles on each of them. I'm considering taking it back to the dealer as well, but I'm afraid that I'll just end up leaving mad and dissapointed.

guys....BOTH of you....take them BACK.....NOW.....DEMAND satisfaction......the lemmon law protects you.....there is no way that the clear coat should be peeling off at this stage in the game.....do NOT allow shoddy workmanship on the makers part to be tollerated.

and ya just never know....you might just be met with a smile and a response of "sure no problem...that shouldn't happen....we will get you a new wheel right now".....

Believe it or not, its happened.....in fact....it happened to me.....IF EITHER of you recall....a number of years back GM had a lot of trouble with some of their paint.....blues and silvers....they would just start peeling off the cars.....they repainted the cars brought back....at that same time....or about a year after actually I had a Dodge Grand Caravan.....and I noticed a spot starting to peel right over the drivers door.....I washed the van real good and with the sun shining on the roof it looked like the ENTIRE top was dimpled like a golfball...only the dimples were smaller and were sticking up! little bubbles ALL over the roof....well shortly after I took the van in for service and before I left I got the service manager to look at it.....he informed me that there were NO RECALLS or service bulletins on paint for the vans......at that point I was thinking I was out of luck....after all, the van was NOT under warrantee and was two and a half years old.....then he said to me...BUT THAT SHOULD NOT BE DOING THAT....WE will get you fixed up.....two weeks later I dropped my van off at the dealer, and in a few days I had it back....they had completely repainted the roof of the van....AND completely detailed the rest of it!! cleaned, polished, waxed.....and even did the INSIDE of the van as well.......and it didn't cost me a dime...... SO, don't go to the dealer automatically ASSUMING you are going to get s*** on.

i used armorall all wheel cleaner and it IMEDIATLY took part of the clear coat off. going to the dealership again today to get new rims

Can you explain what it looks like a bit more? I DID curb one of my rims, but I noticed in November when I took them off they had small dimples in them where the clear coat came off. It looked like it was from brake dust or something. Is this what you're talking about? I'd love to get new rims because it does suck. I love the look of the stock rims, and want to keep them for a long time (or until I get sick of them ). My only problem is I'm a pushover when it comes to raising a ruckus...

did you check to see if the Armor All Wheel Cleaner is for COATED wheels? there are many different kinds on the market....some are made for wheels that have a clear coat...some are not...those that are not will eat the clear coat....

it may be best if you don't mention that you used some sort of cleaner on them OTHER than water and regular soap....which works just fine.....I also wax them....after all, the clear coat IS a paint....this also makes them slippery....and the brake dust doesn't stick to them nearly as bad....makes it really easy to clean them.....

KatsMP3 please post what the dealer said when you went back for new rims.I think when it gets nice here again like saturday or monday and have the service manager come look at the peeling rim. and hopefully they will give me a new rim no ??? asked.. I maybe dreaming but who knows.Lets see

I had my rims powdercoated not 2 days before I got my rear clunking noise fixed. The blasted so much sparks onto my rear rims and it welded itself to it, now I ahve black pit marks all over. They are paying for the repair and repaint of the rims. So don't worry they should give you new rims.

DO NO USE ANY CLEANERS ON YOUR RIMS..... use car soap... or simple green degreaser.... btw a pressure washer will not to anything to a rim... I mean under 1500 psi's or so. not this crazy 2000 + stuff.... if you have good manufacturing.. nothing will happen.
