Anybody used MTL in their trannie?

OK, so I put the Redline MT90 in my MS3. Shifts great, all that stuff.
A cold front came through Houston (middle 40's) and now during the first couple of miles of driving the shifts from 1st to 2nd have a slight grinding. If I take it easy, slow shifting the notchiness is kept to a minimum. After the engine heats things up a bit, about 5 - 10 minutes all is well.

A quick perusal of Redline's web shows that MT 90 is considerably thicker than MTL. MTL is considered a 70/80 wt whereas MT90 is a 75/90. Both are rated as GL-4. So has anyone tried the MTL in their trannie?

I have heard of BMW owners who use Redline D4 ATF in the winter (mostly guys up North) and switch to MTL in the summer. I am considering using MTL in the winter and MY 90 in the summer.

An I crazy?

Do I need a shrink? Opinions apperciated. Thanks AMascio

i was told by a redline rep and many other that the MT-90 is better to use than the regular MTL so i would use that instead. Im using the MT-90 and it works great!

You use MTL in manual transmissions that otherwise use ATF such as the Borg Warners used in Mustangs and Camaros. For this car, you need to use the MT90.

I'm thinking that the Mazdaspeeds get Ford brand 75w/90 GL4 put in them as the factory fill. This MT90 is doing so poorly I'll probably go back to that while I regroup and figure out what to do. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated - amsoil's manual trannie fluid sounds good - anyone try it?

I would give Royal Purple a whirl. Does really well in cold climates because of the formula.

Since someone mentioned a 5spd (implying non-speed3) Owner's manual specs GL4 75W-90 for all temp conditions for the MS3.

For plain 3's, it specifies GL4 or GL5 75W-90 for all temps, or GL4/GL5 80W-90 for above 10 deg. C.
