Since you guys were talking about your fancy L primes, I thought I'd share my dinky 1.8 50mm off a Canon XS

edit: this is self-portrait

If only they could make other lenses with such great quality at affordable prices. I'd like a nice action zoom lens (something in the 100-400 f/2-3 range, if possible) for under $200. My Tamron 70-300 isn't bad and I only paid $100 for it, but I'm talking a quality piece...

less optics...less parts, less glass, which means clearer picture and cheaper to make due to less supplies needed?

i have no clue!

lol @ this

my 100-400 was $1200. Canon is releasing a 200-400 f/4 soon that is rumored to cost around $7-8K. We will never see a lens like what you're talking about, let alone one that costs under $200. Fast zooms are expensive. End of story.

...And big, and heavy.

Haha..no. I don't think it works that way completely. There are still glass pieces inside, the aperture is a big factor, plus the focusing motor if it is an AF lens, plastic vs metal body, weather sealing, metal or plastic lens mounts, the type of AF motor, does it give you full time manual focusing, R&D, etc etc.

Ya I can't wait for the 35mm woot! Maybe by May or June i should have it. :)
