1st shot is top notch.

Do military photographers get involved with combat when needed?

I had to learn a good balance between being a rifleman and a photographer over there. Even though I was a photographer I was still considered a combatant unlike civilian photogs. There were times when I had to clear a building or provide security and even pull the trigger. Most of the time I am surrounded by a squad or more of Marine Corps Infantry so I felt pretty safe... well as safe as one could feel in a combat zone.

thats insane. you being a photog, wouldnt it be a war crime if you were harmed?

Nope. I was actual Military just my job in the Marines was to be a photographer. I still carried a full combat load and my M16 as well as my camera gear. So that would make me a combatant which means I was fair game.

Dunno if it was specific to me but me and the other photogs in my unit had a price on our heads. I think it was if an insurgent/sniper filmed himself killing one of us he would get $25K. The average payment for an infantryman kill is $5k.

thanks for everything your doing out there. my dad + cousin are marines. i get a lot of s*** for being an american here in london and hear crap from all my european friends. no matter what i still support my troops. god bless usa.

killian i love your photos. I don't necessarily like war or think that the one we're in right now is right, but you guys are our boys and we people need to see that our service men and women are good people who aren't just in another part of the world killing people. Semper fi friend.

Attached are two more images from last weekend. The more I think about it the conditions were nearly perfect except for the freezing temperature.

Others are posted on my flickr page (link at the bottom of my sig).

hanauma bay. I used to snorkel there as a kid. That was soooo much fun.

Very nice. My only diving and snorkeling fun has been around Cape Cod. Can barely see beyond 5 feet most of the time. I've been 50 ft. deep though, that was cool.

Wonderful Pictures!

Is that El Capitan? I have a good friend of mine who has base jumped El Capitan countless times. Crazy stuff

RedBull Music Academy party

This is Tony Styles from the Renegades crew in San Fran. He's my sister's boyfriend's cousin. So he's just visiting.
