Any photographers in here?

400$? you're crazy man....

that rig has less than 100$ of material...and I work for a P. Eng and we have a shop downstairs ;) it would be easy peasy to get stuff welded at the cost of a lunch.

the prefered method:
suction cups

Okay, well there you go. I would have to get a new job to have access to such services.

If suction cups are your preferred method then I think you'd be best served by going to a manufacturer/importer like Anver. Those 10" cups have the advantage of being strong and having a 4-point threaded mount for the handle. It would be pretty simple to unscrew the handle and replace it with a plate with a 1/4"-20 bolt. That could take a camera, a ball head, or another mount through with the pipe would sit.

If you figure something out maybe I'll send you lunch as payment for a second copy of all fabricated parts. (naughty)

lol

10" cups are too large. you will have trouble mounting it on a lot of cars

oh yeah, I'm also a CAD expert. LOL so fab drawings are nothing

Fun shots from today
hmm, why is everyone looking down?

wow, not a lot of room for the parachute to open

not to mention a lot of trees to get caught up on

This is one of my friend's cats. I took this w/ the new flash. Bounced off the ceiling at 1/2 power in M mode.

And..this was my attempt at 2nd curtain sync with the new flash. Taken 0.5 second shutter. No tripod since I didn't wanna be carrying one inside a club. Flash at about 1/2 power

it was a 190ft static line jump, so only about a second of freefall. I've seen him jump 140ft bridges before just fine.

Crazy guy!

Nice picture. Was the flash mounted on the camera or triggered remotely? If its on the camera let the camera do all of the hard work of figuring flash power level. Canon's TTL metering pretty good and it will be able to calculate proper exposure easily and automatically take into consideration aperture and ISO.

It was on the camera. For some reason I dont' like shooting in any sort of auto modes. I'll try next time.

I can totally agree with having full artistic control of the image parameters, but when you adjust them by chimping the image after its taken its not really different then the camera doing the flash power setting, its just a whole lot quicker. Beside, if you don't like what the camera decides is proper lighting you can always use the flash compensation setting to power up or down the flash relative to the ambient light. The camera will again set image parameters such that you will get the desired result.

Now, one you get a set of eBay wireless triggers you will need to be in manual mode. Of course, since you will have to place the flash on something this scenario generally lens itself to the slower, iterative process of manual adjustments. The process is something like this: guess at the first setting and take a shot; adjust using the results viewed on the LCD and take a second shot; adjust again and take the keeper.
