Any photographers in here?

Yes, definitely a good choice. I don't think getting another S2 or S3 would be wise as you are limiting yourself because you don't have the flexibility of a DSLR. There are a HUGE range of lenses that you can get too.... from macro to long telephoto. this will increase your capability to capture the right shots. seems like you like landscape, so a nice ultrawide lens and some filters will give you with awesome pictures.

I walked in the store today for an XT and walked out with a D50.... I decided it was "fear of change" so far after playing with it for a couple hours and 75 pics I'm definately not regretting it...

I have come to a conclusion:
XT is to D50 as Evo is to Sti

practice pics to be posted in a few.

ok, I think i'm ready for the DSLR upgrade.

I've looked at the Canon Digital Rebel XT and the Canon 20D caught my eye... I love the feel of that camera over the rebel and I realize the MP difference, I'm just wondering if y'all thought the 20D would be worth the $600 price difference...

Or should I be looking at the Nikon D50/70

thoughts?

I was a Canon guy. I bought Canon. I recommended Canon to everyone I knew. I placed the Rebel XT at the top of my list of got-to-get things. But when I got serious about looking at cameras I kept going back to the feel and function of the Nikon D50. What you're basically getting is an updated D70 sensor in a D70 body with a slightly slower max frame rate. Plus the body is larger and has better display and button palcement then the Rebel XT. I know there are other differences too, but the point is the D50 gives you 95% of the D70 form and function for less. If you don't mind buying a factory demo unit then you can get a D50 body on eBay all day long for $400.

Further, I think the best lens for the money is the Nikon 18-200 VR. This is truly a lens that you will never take off the camera...you don't need to. It has range and stability control and is tack sharp. Canon doesn't have a lens with IS and that range for $1000.

So, I guess I came late to the party. Good purchase, Breeegz.

I agree with you. from pictures i have seen and reviews i have read, that covers the entire range anybody could really want. it's a tad slow at f/3.5 - 5.6 though. so it's probably great in outdoor shooting when it's well lit, but won't do as well in low light. but then again, that's what faster lenses are for. :)

looks like a got a lot of learning to do, I love it when my learning curve is strait up...

What is a good site to buy lenses/bags/filters? I have a feeling my next few "gift" holidays willinclude camera equipment... I'll have to send my family there..

Cool rosehip pics! Very texture-y and you can just about taste the tartness from the color! :)

bhphotovideo is a good site for bags/cases.

Depending on what kind of bag you want you may want to look into the Crumpler bags. I have the 6 Million Dollar Home bag. it's great, can fit my Rebel XT with grip on, my big Canon 17-55mm lens on the camera and my 430EX flash comfortably. It can hold another lens and my charger and extra things like memory cards. best of all, it doesn't look like a photobag.

Yo Breegz. Not to give you hard time because those are good pics but that last one of the P5, I think that would have looked better if you had your fog and headlights off.

^ I agree, however I was on lunch when I took that, and I was just playing around, seeing what I could do. Wait, I have a better excuse!

consider it a "Before" Pic
soon the "after" pic will be posted... hint hint

After looking again I see that it would've looked better with a wax/polish and no rain! and I c that perhaps I should finally get around to painting my headlights...

behold, the power of a filtered B&W

yes B&H Photo is very good. They have a good selection and good customer service. Adorama is an equivalent site, but I prefer B&H's navigation and product descriptions.

Crumpler bags are very nice, too.
