Nice model pictures! No flash? Also, don't the models charge you to take pictures? Some are very stingy...

Also, the pic in my sig, come to find out, the guy merged two pictures to make that one.

Nice thread again.

Fill flash. :) You dial down the flash so that it is not overpowering and very subtle. basically brightens your subjects without having that white flash look. it makes for more natural looking pictures. i use a 430EX flash and a Lumiquest softbox diffuser over the flash.

I've heard that before, but I never really went to these import/drift events before I started this photo gig. If you are media, then they can't really charge you for taking their pic anyways. Actually, they want you to take more pics of them cuz it will give them more exposure. Although I guess it would be a nice gesture to buy a calendar or something. but i never do... haha

why would he need to merge to photos together??

maybe you see their flaws up close? pictures do a good job of hiding things like that. haha

ok, I think i'm ready for the DSLR upgrade.

I've looked at the Canon Digital Rebel XT and the Canon 20D caught my eye... I love the feel of that camera over the rebel and I realize the MP difference, I'm just wondering if y'all thought the 20D would be worth the $600 price difference...

Or should I be looking at the Nikon D50/70

thoughts?

The Digital Rebel XT is soooooo nice. If i had the money i'd throw down for it. I just started my first semester of Photography and I love it. I have a Canon EOS Rebel G2 just a 35. But back on your Topic. The Rebel XT and Nikon D50 or 70 are all nice camera's either way your not gonna go wrong.

well I have only owned canon digital cameras and I have never had a complaint... is it brand loyalty or the fear of change?

Don't know enough about the Nikon's, so i can't help you there.

The XT and the 20D are great cameras. i use the XT and I have found it very capable. they are ALMOST the same inside. One thing the 20D does have that is better is the more advanced 9pt autofocus (vs 7pt in the XT). The 20D also has a max shutter speed of 1/8000, higher ISO 3200 and better built body. If you are serious about photography, then the 20D (or even the 30D) will definitely not disappoint. if you are just looking for some more functionality beyond your basic point and shoot, then the XT is good for you.

It's also mainly the lens that makes the most difference. the kit lens (which i am trying to sell) is a great starter lens. I have shot some awesome shots with it. it is small, light and has decent image quality. but in low light, i found i need something more and that's why i upgraded.

Exactly.

The Rebel XT or D50 body with a ~$600 lens will take better photos than the 20D/D70 with the "kit" lens.

This is my current camera

It's what I have been taking all my pictures that I post in this thread and this one

however my wife and I find we are fighting over it and we have started taking pictures to submit them to photo contests... possible sell some?

We could get another S2-IS or S3-IS, but to go back to an old Hardee's Commercial
"If you are going to go, go all out"

I follow the philosify, If you do it right the first time it will save you money in the long run. So I think we'll go with the XT for the "best bang for our buck...

Thanks for helping me out (now only if I can get it in black, instead of the grey)

Yes, definitely a good choice. I don't think getting another S2 or S3 would be wise as you are limiting yourself because you don't have the flexibility of a DSLR. There are a HUGE range of lenses that you can get too.... from macro to long telephoto. this will increase your capability to capture the right shots. seems like you like landscape, so a nice ultrawide lens and some filters will give you with awesome pictures.
