very nice.... i like simplicity of it. I would suggest to clone out the bottom right corner in Photoshop. It's bright and distracting, leading my eye away from the nice lines of the car.

Just placed my order with B&H for a black Rebel XT with kit lens and a 50mm 1.8II prime lens. Looking forward to getting it on Wednesday (2 day shipping - hoping it ships today). Also ordered the Panasonic PVGS-39 MiniDV camcorder as well, to replace our old Hi-8 cam. Merry Christmas from the IRS!

On the topic of tripods....can you swap heads on any tripod? Or if you buy a mediocre tripod, are you stuck with the head?

How much was shipping for that bad boy? Do you know how much regular ground was? I'm thinking about picking one of these up while the $100 rebate is around.

DAMMIT!!!

MY CF CARD ISN'T WORKING!

Okay, enough yelling, but yah, my 3GB Hitachi CF card isn't working. I have no idea why and I just got it a couple months back... I hope I can get a warranty on it.

Did anyone ever encounter a problem like this? Solutions?

Thanks!

Does it work anywhere else? Like your computer? Do you have another device that take CF card? If so, try using the card on another device.

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough. I was uploading pictures via my printer and half-way thru, I got an error saying invalid picture formats or something. I tried reinserting the card in the printer and got the same error. I tried then putting it in my camera and got a CF ERR also... This was all last night.

Sad day for me... :(

i'm sure you can get a warranty on it. it might take a while though if you have to mail it in and wait for them to fix it. i'm not saying those Microdrives aren't good, but they have moving parts in them, which will eventually lead to some kind of failure. I prefer flash based drives, no moving parts, hardly any errors. You can get a 2GB Sandisk CF card for under $100 nowadays.

Yeah, my entire order consisting of:

1) Digital Rebel XT w/ kit lens
2) Canon EF 50mmII prime lens
3) Canon UV filter
4) Panasonic PV-GS39 Camcorder

shipped for $32.80 for UPS 2nd day business. 3-5 day ground was $18. I'm too impatient to wait!!

Gonna order my Sans Disk CF 1GB and Opteka battery grip with extra canon battery through Amazon. It was cheaper and includes free shipping on some of it.

Sorry if I suggest the obvious, but...

Have you re-formatted the card lately? If not, try that. You may lose some pictures but not the card. I generally reformat my CF card in my 3.2 mp about once a month.

Yup. Reformat it. It happens. If it's still unusable after a format then get it warrantied.

I reformat my cards every time they get put into the camera....I don't want to lose any pics due to corrupted data from repeated erasures. Of course the fact that the Nikon D70s has a two-button format shortcut helps...don't need to dig through menus ;)

How are you liking the D70S? I went to Ritz camera today to get my hands on a Rebel XT and a D70S. I have to say I like the feel of the D70 and the 18-70mm Nikkor lens seems much better than the Canon 18-55mm. Before I went to Ritz today I was sure I was getting the Canon, but now I'm torn. It's mainly a price issue (and to a lesser extent, resolution issue). And I don't mind the price difference if I believe I'm getting a better camera (with the D70S). Any thoughts?

I had a very similar experience to you, rjm. I though I was a Canon guy until I actually spent some time with Rebel XT and the D50 (in my case). There was simply no way for me to use the Rebel XT as intended because of the small size of the body and positioning of the buttons. The D50 body (very similar to the D70s, btw) is much better for me and closer to higher-end camera bodies such as the D200. That makes me think there are other features that filter down to the lower models as well.

Anyway, last Friday I received my D50 body and Nikon 18-70mm "D70s Kit Lens" in the mail. After shooting about 750 pictures this weekend I can say I am very happy with my decision. I find the engineering and the thoughtfulness of design impresive. I think this camera will last a while as my primary camera.

Here are the first pictures of the Protege5 (with a fair amount of post processing):

Funny, I don't know how I missed the above post...well, good luck with the Canon anyway!

yes. Tripods have a standard 1/4" stud in the top prtion, top of the centershaft. All heads take a 1/4" stud on them. Well, if you buy a mediocre tripod, you're probably stuck with it. Unless you're pro, a Manfrotto works well for the price.

I almost lost my $250 tripod in a river once. Was taking pics in the middle while perched up on a rock, and as I was leaving I let go of it too quick when I released the camera. I retrived it. it was only 3 days old..

Yeah, I totally did a 180. But this camera is also something that my wife wants to use and the Canon fits her better. After much research, I figured I could get either camera and be happy so I chose the Canon ($679 from B&H, good deal). When I went to test drive the cameras, I could just pick up the Canon and start shooting. The Nikons always gave me trouble initially, so I guess that may have had an influence.
