Any photographers in here?

Funky, what did you think of the d5000?

I think it's cool for entry level camera. It's probably inline with the REbel series of cameras from canon. Video is cool..at 720p, but if you're using adobe to edit..it uses MJPEG codecs. I don't like the feel though.. too small for my hands.

A buddy of mine has one, and its fairly comparable to my other friend's XTi, but as you said, substantially smaller.

When I use others' D40s I kind of like the smaller size + lightness...if only I knew the body better. The entry level dSLRs have gotten very potent, and are great values.

I want to try out a t2i for video in the worst way. maybe I'll rent one.

As funky said earlier. Canon decided to shove 18MP's into a smaller than normal sensor. (Little read. The T2i uses the 1.6x) So as sensors go that will introduce more noise at higher iso's than a larger sensor or even 12MP 1.6x sensor. That said, its a menial thing, but if you have to shoot at high iso frequently its something to think about.

For sure. And...buy more expensive lenses to kind of compensate. But if you are shooting for mostly web images, then it should be okay. I think the sensor/MP thing is more noticeable when you start printing your pictures in larger sizes.

All canons (minus the 1d, 1ds, and 5d) use a 1.6x sensor... so I wouldn't call it "smaller than normal." That is Canon's "normal" crop sensor. I have a 50d with the same size sensor for taking photos, I just want to try video on the T2i. The great thing about 18mp is that at 720p, the noise is so small you probably can barely see it. At f/2.8, I wouldn't really need to push the ISO that much anyway.

I just downloaded lightroom and decided to give it another shot... I am liking it so far. It takes way longer to edit each photo, but I'm coming up with pretty decent results!

Yeah, nice! I just bought Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Lightroom 2.. I cannot wait for it to get here.

It's all about actions and automation in LR. I use pshop for individual editing and then use lightroom to just export the rest and do mass corrections.

I've never understood this. How can you do mass corrections to a group of different photos? Or are you just talking about resizing and the like?

resizing, sharpening, noise reduction, white balance, exposure correction, tone curve, distortion correction.... just a few of the things you can mass correct on a group of photos.

I knew how to create templates on my old raw converter... I just need to learn how to do it in lightroom. It definitely seems robust!

Oh oh oh!

I think I have secured a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS for a great price. It is in minty mint condition too. I am going to look at it on Saturday... and hopefully pick it up. :)
