Any Fitness Fanatics here?

I don't really exercise but I do like riding my bike and playing sports. I do some crunches and stretches. I have a hard time putting on weight too. I'm 5"11' 135 lbs.

Back in mid March I started the P90X program. Canceled my membership at the gym and got busy. I've got 2 weeks left on my current routine. So far I've lost 5 lbs and 2 pants sizes. When I started, my body fat was 26%. It is now 12%. Oh, I'm 5'9" 175lbs. For me, this has been so much better than anything I did in the gym. The ab work out is very tough. It's called ab ripper. It's 15 min of core/ab work. I highly recomend this program.

gyme? what's a gyme?!?
Ohhhh... a GYME!!!

I used to be classed as obese, now I'm normal :D
I did a couple powerlifting routines, starting with the Rippetoe Program. Got my big-3 tripled in 6mths. Now I just mess around with custom routines, focusing on 4day routines. I've gotta get back into my routine (really hard with nice weather) and remember to slam on my upperbody, 28" thighs and 15.5" arms are a weird combo.

I haven't been to the gym in like 4 weeks, but my PRs are:
Squat - 375lbs
Deadlift - 390lbs
Bench - 235lbs
I'm 6'5 and 230lbs. but I've been injured for about 10 weeks (blown rotator cuff then seriously sprained foot). I feel like a slug, I bike to/from work every day, but it's not making me bigger, so it sucks.

I always use the tried and true method of dieting..

Do More, Eat Less

that's the basic idea...

and read Men's Health magazine...it's the High Times of workout junkies...

If you read one magazine, you'll pretty much get the idea...and their Eat this Not that articles are great...makes you realize that what you think is "healthier" may have more fat and calories than you imagine...

My only "workout" is rock climbing and hiking in the mountains...

With that type of injury, you need to drop those heavy weights and go light with high reps. Seems like your a big guy.

I lost 15lbs so far, i go to the gym lift weights, walk on the tredmill, some times i do exercises in the pool and i have been eating heathy.

I also posted this in the cyclists thread.... (there is a picture of my "trophy" in that thread also...)

I completed my first Half Ironman distance Triathlon yesterday.

1.2 mile swim = 32 minutes - 1:31 per 100 yards (I have spent a lot of time swimming in the past year)

56 mile bike = 2:36 min - 21.8 mph (it was actually 56.6 miles)

13.1 mile run = 2:25 - 11 minute miles (I am fat and can't run for s***)

Total time - 5:40 including transitions

High points;

Fast bike course
My heart rate was in range the whole time
I finished (this was 2 times that longest distance race that I have ever done)

Low points;
The water (lake michigan) was 55 degrees
I had a huge blister (2" across) on my left heel for the last 8 miles of the run)
It got pretty hot and humid during the run

All in all, it was an awesome day. I am pretty sore and stiff today but it feels like I accomplished a huge goal of mine (I have been training for this for a long time)

next year, full Iron Distance 2.4 mile swim/112 mile bike/26.2 mile run. now that will be an accomplishment.

Who gave you this routine?

Pull/pull push/push is aweful....

Try this instead:

Mon: Chest/Biceps
Tues: legs/abs (no cardio)
Wed: Shoulders/Traps
Thurs: Back/Tri's
Friday: have fun, tread mill/abs/core exercises.

Work in some light Cardio before your workout too.

Wow, what aweful advice...

Bodybuilding routines for bodybuilders. It's a sport, not fitness. ;)

lulz....

Ive been involved in a bodybuilding show and have been wieghtlifting for 3 years. This last 6 months ive been training for thriathlons. Ive never been or wanted to be huge. It just doesn't look good imo. Right now im 5"10, 170, at 10.3 % bodyfat.

Ive got a fast metabolism like you (ectomorph = genetically thin). From the picture its hard to tell but you dont look THAT thin. Without going onto a huge rant about nutrition the only advice is you have to eat . . . I eat around 4000 calories a day just to maintain 170 pounds. Eat as "clean" as you can. Might not be a good ide to down whoppers and pizza (even with fast metab) if you want to keep your bodyfat down. Whoppers and fast food are good bulking foods :) but they are still bad for your heart / etc.

Research proper weightlifting routines to make sure your working out correctly. Make sure you get your protein shake after your workouts. Eat plenty of whole grain carbs but maintain a balanced diet still. A strategy that helped me gain was eating a good meal right before bed. I would sleep on like 1/2 a cup of brown rice, 2 servings veggies, 1 chicken breast, handful of nuts,. If your metabolism is anything like mine, than gaining weight is truly a battle. Lots of time preparing food. No shortcuts . . . you just have to eat eat eat.

Lastly keep your weightraining workouts short (45 min - 1 hour tops). For fast metabolism guys who want to bulk, shorter and harder in the gym is more beneficial than long workouts which are generally for cutting, "bigger" guys.

Any more questions let me know ! I have spent so many hours researching about bodybuilding and I trained at the YMCA for a summer.

Damn you eaing rice and chicken before going to bed. lol. I eat high fiber cereal before going to bed, protien shake in the morning, 6 egg whites when I have the time, a salad with nuts and cranberries for lunch, bannana (snack), the more you eat the more calories you burn, if you wanna bulk try some brewers yeast, 2 boil potatoes for breakfast, do not over kill your protien (too much protien can lead to kidney failure), and stay on the greens.

When I was bulking yea I ate a full meal right before bed. So hard for me to gain weight. I was probably eating 5-6k calories a day to get from 155 to 180. Sickening amount of food. Make sure you also get ur unsaturated fat. Throw in a tbsp of olive oil in some rice or pasta or whatever.

hey thanks for the info coyfish i appricate it, my body is build weird haha my chest and shoulders are pretty big already i guess im wide up top but my stomach looks skinny i wear a 34 pant but look like a wear a 20 haha, i know i should eat better i do eat alot of chicken and beef already at home cuz its simple to make but i also eat a meal before bed and i never seem to gain anything, should i just try free weights at home and a protine shake and see if that helps anything out, i really dont know much about lifting cuz i never worked out in my life so any help will be appricated

start with some basic push up/pull up and jogging, but if you wanna get big heavy weight's is the way to go.
