Anodize or powder coat

Anyone here want to chime in on the benefits or drawbacks of these two processes. I am trying to decide if I should anodize or powder coat my IC pipes. once the pipes are reinstalled I am not to worried about nicks but it seems to me anodizing is easier to scratch or mar but looks better. In the process of getting the car set up I have scuffed piping on the shifter weight and the ducting on the hood when I don't get fitment right on.

Thanks to anyone willing to post better insight.

well I know that a lot of high end bikes (Santa Cruz, Specialized, Yeti...) use anodized paint on some of their more expensive frames. Ano paint is a lot lighter and more aerodynamic, but as for heat properties, can't tell you much...

powdercoat doesn't allow for heat transfer, it essentially keeps heat trapped under it. Anodizing transfers heat just fine.

unless your pipes are bare aluminum, you wont be able to anodize them. true anodizing is a surface oxidation that changes the surface chemistry of aluminum.

that should tell you right there what to do.

Never heard of anodized paint, I'll see what I can find on that unless you care to elaborate. I understood anodizing to be, and I quote from above," surface oxidation that changes the surface chemistry..".
My pipes are aluminum, I did make sure anodizing was an option.

Thanks for the input.

Anodize (have them blasted if they aren't bare, likely to happen if you powder them anyways), it won't add any additional thickness to the pipes which won't interfere with the couplings (not to say there'd be much to worry about with powder).

The downside is that you may or may not have a good anodizer in the area.

I just got my FMIC pipes back from powdercoat on Thur, i'll be installing Monday. i'll let you know if there are any fitment issues. but they look AMAZING!!!!

fyi my buddy has the Cobb FMIC and they came powdercoated so......
