android tv stick, anyone tinker with this idea?

I was wondering if anyone has tried to splice into the pins on the stock radio to feed another video source to an unused port? For example I have 2014 cx5 touring and I dont have nav, so that input is not getting a signal from a device (like the gps unit installed to the left of the steering wheel on models with gps) so couldn't I find the pins for that input and wire in my own signal. Take a HDMI to rca cable male to male and cut the rca side and separate the ground from the video and audio feeds and wire them into the correct pins (using a wire digram for the stock head unit) Then plug the android tv stick into the other end and shouldnt it work? I've seen people doing something like this with Audi headunits, and the new mazda 3.

Additionally I've read that the stock gps modular which is located next to the steering wheel when added, has all of its wires in place. Meaning if you don't have gps and you remove the empty square shelf thing you should find a connector to plug the gps modular into so in theory within that connector are the audio video connections you need to isolate to custom wire in your own feed.

This all sounds like it could work, what do you think? Anyone try something like it? If you had a HDMI input you could feed anything to the screen, even apple tv or a mirrorlink box
