Amsoil Users?

I have emailed the moderator to ask about getting approved vendor status and so hope that no one will be upset if I continue to post here while waiting for that process to be completed.

To be able to make a lubricant recommendation I need more information about the vehicle and how it is operated. I need year, model, engine and transmission. I also need to know the mileage, what viscosity oil and brand you have been using, how often it has been changed and where the vehicle is located. If, for example, the car is in Minnesota and is used year round you might be better off with one oil than if you are in Texas.

Please feel free to send email directly to me if you would rather not post your details in public.

What do you recommend for an MP3 with a turbo then?

And tranny fluid?

I have a 5 speed, protege ES I autocross in the summer and drive fairly aggressively under normal conditions. Located in Colorado, and as I mentioned I am running 5w30 in the summer and 10w-30 in the winter

I think you probably meant to say that you have been using 5w-30 in the winter and 10w-30 in the summer. In general terms, most people should just be using 5w-30 year round. 0w-30 gives better fuel economy and better protection during startup, this benefit is more pronounced at colder temperatures but is, in my opinion, worth paying the premium.

I have more info that I could make available to you but won't post it here until I get the approved vendor status. If you would like me to send it just send me a PM.

I have a 2003 Protege ES with 8800 miles and have been using Amsoil 5w-30 after my first oil change at 3000 miles - Everything seems fine.

I am having a hard time not changing the oil every 3000 miles, but my Dads been running synthetic in his Volkswagen TDI - Changing it once a year and he has 100,000 miles on the car and its a 2001. Still runs great. He uses full synthetic disel Caterpillar oil. From the research i performed on Amsoil they seem to have equal quality or better.

Anyone truly interested in running extended drain intervals should check out this site:

http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/oil-life.html

This guy has a Camaro and he ran Mobil 1 since new and took a sample every 1000 miles, and sent it to a lab for analysis. It lasted 18000 miles before it looked "worn out" according to the lab. Of course, he did routine filter changes and topped off with fresh Mobil 1 due to the loss from the filter changes and the samples taken. Ended up with adding about 6 quarts, I think, during those 18000 miles, or another whole change.

Now he's doing the same with Amsoil. He's at 5000 miles and it still looks good according to lab analysis.

I just drained my 10w-30 for 5w-30 last night cause i noticed a diff at start up i like the 5w-30 much better. Just feels alot smoother and easier reving. I think 10w-30 would be for an engine with alot of miles that is a lil looser.
