amazing gas milage

I do ~2k/mo with a 70 mile roundtrip commute Mon -> Fri. So far I average anywhere from 22mph to 28mpg depending on how much fun I have.

I believe you because I was getting about 26- 28mpg from Orlando to Tampa (HWY) and I wasn't exactly being easy on her.

I just completed a trip from orlando to key west and back. The highway portions between orlando and miami I was running with cruise control on, constant 90 to 95mph, with the once in a while spurt up to 110 or so. Once in a while I had to bump it down when the radar detector went off. Once past miami I filled the tank in key largo, ran it all the way out to key west, drove around key west some, then ran back up to miami, out to the south beach area for some sitting in traffic and made it back to west palm before I filled it up. With that mix of driving I averaged 30mpg! I was astounded. The higher speed highway runs I am averaging 23 to 24mpg which isn't bad, but the trick for the 30mpg was the steady 45 and 55 mph with no stops running down the keys and back.

WTF!! man i dont even get that good mileage
i drive like a grandma almost all the time too,
i might as well go turbo, s*** if im gonna get better gas mileage

When home doing runs back and forth to work I have been getting between 23 and 24 mpg. This is with 3,000 miles on the car so far. Hoping it gets a smidge better as it breaks in fully.

Now I got to rotate the tires and get my first oil change before too much longer.

On a recent Boston-Philly road trip, which was magically almost traffic-free, I got 29.5 MPG for a tank of gas (309.4mi/10.474gal). That was mostly cruising at 75 in 6th. Luckily for my gas mileage I was leading a truck that was governed really hard at ~75mph.

In city I get about 23~24 mpg.

I was pleasantly surprised when I drove down to NC the other day.
Normally the gauge reads 1/2 after I've driven about 160 miles,
and that time I got 240 miles by the time the needle pointed 1/2.
When I did the calculation as I filled up, I got about 31mpg.
(The trip computer read 35mpg which seems to be always 3~4 mpg optimistic)

I am averaging about 330-360 miles to a tank (about 12 gallons). I have about 32,000 miles on my car. Gas is getting too expensive to drive hard around here plus since i got out of the Military I am not making as much $. But i usually shift around 3000 rpm.

I notice that the needle comes off full very quickly in this car. Either that, or I didn't fill it up as much as I could today. I finished my first tank of gas today and went until the needle was on the first tick mark above E. The low fuel light had been on for a while. It took about 11.7 gallons, so there was almost 3 gallons left in the tank. I got about 300 miles to the tank, but the trip counter was off when I picked the car up from the dealer, so I'm not quite sure what it actually was. Anyway, I filled the car until it clicked and then put about another .50 cents worth of gas in it. When I got in the car, the needle was about 1/8" above full. I went about 35 miles before the needle came had moved below the full line (mostly highway), which is not what I'm used to. My RSX Type-S would go about 60-65 miles before coming off full averaging 28-29mpg with my commute. Sometimes, with an all highway trip, I'd go about 90 miles before coming off full. So, I'm thinking that when the fuel pump clicked, it clicked prematurely, but I don't think I will attempt to top it off next time.

I just went through my first tank of gas in my MS3, put 292.1 miles on the car in less than two days. Son had a B-ball tournament in a city that's 120 miles round trip, did that run Sat & Sun. The miles were about 70/30, mostly freeway. I put in 11.2 gallons, gave me right at 26 mpg for the first tank. My normal driving is about 70/30 but mostly city driving. We'll see how it does on my day to day routine.

i swear, this thread got me motivated to break some kinda record. 1500 miles on my new car. i was putting along, short shifting my car like a granny with loose bowels. then i let my buddy drive my car. i gave him the keys, my blessings, and strapped into the passenger seat. he got on it like a man possessed! he burned a quarter tank like a monster truck. one thing for sure, driven in anger, this car burns fuel! i will top off and start the experiment again. friend loved it!

This car does burn it fast if you're driving it like you stole it. You can watch the damn needle move throughout the entire drive. I've never had a car where the needle comes off FULL so quickly before, even with about 80% of my driving on the highway. Last tank, I got about 310 miles to it. Came out to be about 26mpg. Not bad, but not as good as my Acura RSX Type S, which I could flog and average 28-29mpg. Gotta love Hondas. 200+ hp from a 2.0L and still get good gas mileage.

You want to see something drink fuel, try a 6000lb jeep on 35 inch tires, 4 liter inline 6, 4x reduction transfer case. 16 gallons of gas offroad for 50 miles = empty tank.

Mileage vs Smileage

Don't let mileage get in the way of smileage...it is a Speed 3 after all. I'm old so occasionally for fun I like to see how many miles to the gallon. The top so far is 28.

Here are the facts concerning mileage, 15,000 miles @
30 miles to gallon with $5.00 per gallon gas costs $2,500.
25 miles to gallon with $5.00 per gallon gas costs $3,000.
20 miles to gallon with $5.00 per gallon gas costs $3,750.

One hundred dollars a month difference between mileage and smileage. You should worry more about the price of Starbucks.

I normally get between 27-30 MPG lately and I calculate every time I fill up.

I must say I find it hard to believe that someone is getting 32 MPG going 75-80 on the highway. The faster you have your cruise set at, the more gas you are going to burn in my experience. If you are not setting the cruise and speeding up and slowing down, then you would get even worse gas mileage.

I had a trip to Florida from Ohio back in March and when driving at 70, I got right around +/-30. Travelling at 75-80 I would barely reach 28. Now, this is with true calculations and not my car telling me. My car was telling me 32.1, so I knew it was lying to me... :)

so far iv averaged 24-26 MPG with mixed hwy/cty driving.
i get on the car when i need to be reminded why i spent the money on the car on the first place but when im not on it im in 6th gear by the time i hit 40mph...
keeping these cars off the rpms and out of the boost helps alot!
im not sure if anyone has said this yet but if you want a perfect MPG reading set your trip meter after a fill up and run untill your next fill up then fill your tank up then pull out your cell phone and do
millage on trip meter divided by gallons put into tank= perfect MPG reading
:)

Don't let mileage get in the way of smileage.

Quote of the Year.

If gas prices are really hurting you that much, you should've got a Prius/Fit/et al. My SPG (smiles per gallon) are higher than listed on the window sticker.

90% of driving is in traffic .. you can only cruise with the others. At most 10% is smile time. I'll buy whatever car I damn well want for my 10% smile time.

I get about 320 miles before the fuel light comes on. 26MPG.

I don't drive Interstate much, mostly rural roads and highways.
