Am I The Only One That Thinks The P5 Is Kinda Quick?

My P5 is quick (or rather will be (ughdance) ). Even so, when I first got my P5 I thought it was pretty fast. Alas, then I became a member of these forums a few months later and realized the lie I was living. Even stock it zipped through the corners though - I guess that's what made me think it was so fast (I usually left everyone else way behind me).

I'm gonna guess that a yaris is lighter than an xB, and I know it has more power.

im pretty sure the yaris and xb use the exact same engine. both have 105hp from what I can remember but the guy who got beat by a yaris had his modded.

WOOOHOOO not a single car broke into the 16s in that comparo!

Mmm,I would have to agree that the P5 is..slow,but,I think it was for a reason, because if they made it have 160hp or higher, then the MSP would have not as sold as much(besides the suspension and all the goodies the MSP comes with.)So,stock, the P5 has adequate speed. With some mods,it can be slightly faster.I mean, what the P5 lacks in speed(N/A),it can make up for in handling.

and it can make up for it with turbo too :)

if you like the car a lot and want it to be faster.. it's doable, just takes a lot of time, work, and money.. or less time, no work, and a lot more money.

The only reason I got a Protege was because they are somewhat of a rarity (when compared to civics and such) and because of the great stock handling of the Protege. Like others have said, once you get it on some twisties...its fast.

meh not all that slow:

That would be me.(sad2)

yes the yaris had to be modded...cause ive raced a yaris, and xb, and a tc and have beaten all...twisties and straight line.

Car and Driver article. P5 FTW!....and I quote, "The Verdict: A sports car in station-wagon clothes."

"This Mazda, like the Proteg four-door on which it's based, is really fun in the twisties. Ride is taut, body roll is tightly controlled, the 50-series Dunlops respond crisply, and they bite (0.79 g). You can set up a happy understeer with light braking on the way into turns, or push in hard under power, then lift a bit when you need to tighten the line. The knee bone is connected to the thigh bone, with no wobbles and no excuses. Precise. Predictable. Press on!"

Yeah, why did you remove all of your belts anyway? Going through my build I see no reason to remove them unless I suppose you used an unorthodox method of running a particular line...?

nah, I changed my timing belt while I had the car apart anyway.

Also fixed my rear motor mount and quite a few other maintenance items.

Ah, I think I remember reading that somewhere now. So did you ever get the alt/ps tensioner worked out?

I had to use a prybar to get the new belt on (ughdance)

and the tensioner on the power steering is the reason I don't have power steering back yet.. I gotta order replacement parts from mazda or something, the tensioners are seriously toast after 2 years in new england or the northeast. I don't know how people in canada survive with these cars, they take a freakin beating under the hood from the salt.
