A buddy of mine posted this on another forum...thought Id share =)

PROPERLY EQUIPPED

Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you gotta love this!!!! This is one of the best comeback lines of all time. It is a portion of a National Public Radio (NPR) interview between a female broadcaster and US Marine Corps General Reinwald who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military installation.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Reinwald, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL REINWALD: We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?

GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL REINWALD: Well, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?

The radio went silent and the interview ended. All over America, people were thinking: Semper Fi, Marine!

I'm quite a lefty when it comes to most anything, but that is a pretty damned good comeback...who the hell could teach gun safety better than a Marine anyway?

That's great! The interviewer must be a City Girl. I forget the statistics, but it's something like 25 percent of children under 15 come in cotact with a gun of some kind, outside the home. Personally I learned (safety course) at age 12 and I think all kids should get a week of gun safety in school (health class if nothing else). I grew up on a farm but didn't hunt (there was a grocery store 9 miles away so we never needed to). My son is now old enough to sometime this summer take him out with the one gun we have, an old high quality magnum class air rifle, so he can learn that it can be fun but also deadly and destructive. Then when he starts with the Teen/Mature shooter pc games I hope in the back of his mind he'll remember pulling a real trigger and knowing what happens in real life. I want him to hold a little lead pellet between his fingers and see how easy it is to squeeze it flat. Then he can see that at speed a pellet can tear though a thick Chicago phone book or block of hard clay.

funny.....
when i went through bootcamp and got to touch the rifle for the first time, i'll admit i was a little scared of other people around me that didnt know what they were doing.....but they do give you good training b4 they actually let you shoot on the range.

well since we liked that Ill post the rest of what My buddy researched. Basically it is a comparison between accidental deaths caused by guns and those deaths caused by doctors, which I know is immediately arguable cause when a doctor works right he saves people and the other way for a gun but its interesting none the less.

Think about this:

A. The number of physicians in the US is 700,000.
B. Accidental deaths caused by physicians each year is 120,000.
C. Accidental deaths per physician are 0.171. (US Dept of Health & Human Services)
D. The number of gun owners in the US is 80,000,000.
E. The number of accidental gun deaths each year (all age groups) is 1,500.
F. The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.0000188. Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners!!!

i read something like that b4.....medical mistake is the leading cause of death in US....kinda ****** up aint it?

thats funny s***..what a dumb b**** that interviewer must have been.

That stat was for "The number of accidental gun deaths each year" If you took into account the # of intentional gun deaths, it would be much larger.

Sorry to turn this into a debate in the humor section, but instead of looking at the number of physicians, maybe look at the number of physician visits. physician visits would be in the 100s of millions each year. If only 120,000 of those visits result in accidental deaths. not as bad of a ratio then.

And the medical malpractice acts are (for all intents and purposes) all accidental too, so the stats match up.

its still 120000 people dead by the hands of DOCTORS....its exactly 120000 too many

i learned how to shoot guns in boy scouts. glad i know how to use guns, never know when it might save your life.

Read that in an e-mail a while back. I personally had no real experiences with rifles until I joined the Corps. I've been an 3 time expert ever since. :D

But I do have to say, I dont allow my son to handle a rifle or handgun. When he becomes a teen I will take him to a gun safety course and then the range. He's only 8 now and we dont keep weapons in the house. The last thing you need is an 8 year old with ADD and Glock. lol

So I guess it is a good thing that the boy scouts in the joke are taking gun lessons instead of first aid training.
