All about CX-5 longevity

That's absurd. I have about 3,000 US Miles on my CX-5 since last oil change. I have almost 36K on mine. It is a 2.5L. I just (as in, while reading this thread) checked the oil level. It is exactly where it was when I checked it right after it was changed. Just a tiny bit below the top hole in the dip-stick.

I'm starting to think that it being flogged everywhere it goes, idling a whole lot and such, doesn't aid in it not burning oil. I'm also starting to think maybe we just have a lemon engine. But it's been fine for reliability so we're not going to look into it unless something comes up like a hard start, CEL or something.

No issues whatsoever. I'm not all sure what really to say. I didn't know this was a common thing. We've never had people complain about them. What do you define as "wearing"?

Unfortunately there are some unnecessary pessimistic negative Nancy's here who often turn posts out like this. It reflects badly on everyone here imo and probably keeps some people as low posters.

I verified with all of our techs, 4 of which are master techs, who've worked at Mazda for at least a decade, that this is the correct oil and is NOT synthetic and is the right type, though I did look like an idiot asking.

I'm not going to believe there is a non-synthetic (not a synthetic blend) 0W-20 ILSAC GF-5 motor oil available until I see it offered for sale (in a drum or otherwise). The Internet is a big place, you can buy all kinds of budget oils in drums, wholesale, retail.... show me where you buy the oil and what the specs are. A photocopy of the spec sheet is also adequate. Then I'll believe you. Because until then it's just a rumor I heard on the Internet.

Sorry meant to say rusting, its been mentioned by UK owners, mine is rusting away on the outside at 2 years old, compared to the last 4 Nissans I've had it doesn't look good for a long life.

Actually he mentioned flogging which I was referring to. Being in line, I think you need to provide photographic evidence of this rust and provide full details of your driving environment and cleaning habits. Otherwise it's probably just user error or a rumour.

I'm not doubting you when you say other dealership employees told you this. I'm saying they were either mistaken or dishonest (I'm not sure which). I've heard plenty of dealership employees say things which were simply wrong. That's why I asked to see the spec sheet.

You can bet if 0W-20 GF-5 oil was available without having to pay synthetic or synthetic blend prices, someone other than your service department would have heard of it.

You bet your there is such thing as 0W20 non-synthetic oil! And you can bet your ass it is Mazda certified! We don't use cheap oil since we get constant shipments of oil drums to our dealer specifically for Skyactiv cars. ....
It's coming up on another oil change on Tuesday, and it's getting a very big inspection, so maybe the oil burning isn't happening, maybe its a leak, but it hasn't been caught before but I'll see Tuesday...

coming up for a oil change/8k service this week, different maz dealership, so will ask the same questions re non-synth 0w20
when booking i asked what oil mfg was used - answer was petrocan (meets/exceeds g5 specs according to their data sheet)

And judging by how you and other people have responded, I'm fairly glad I don't own a Mazda. ...

we did look at your dealership when purchasing, but chose to buy elsewhere for a variety of reasons
other family members have purchased there though, new and used - no negs from them

Bro, you sound like the patient who is arguing with me about something they read on MD about an obscure side-effect potential regarding a medication like Brilinta. I mean, I get that you might TECHNICALLY have a point, but you're taking your technical book-point to a group of people with a vast amount of very focused real-world experience. The two sometimes don't mesh. Unless you are trying to imply that OP is a shill/troll/liar...

My Z06 sooted up the tail-pipes BAD in the first 500 miles. Then, I cleaned them perfectly, and it never did it again. It also used about 1/2 quart of oil in the first 500 miles, too, which it never again did after I finished breaking it in. It is my opinion that if you are having a lot of "ugly black soot", that yes, indeed you might be burning oil.

To that end, you are using a non-synthetic in a motor which as I understand DOES run significantly "hotter" than other motors. I think it would be an interesting experiment for you to sack up and use the Mazda Moly oil for 1-2 oil-changes, and track consumption.

*My CX-5 does not typically "soot" the tips of the tail pipes really. Maybe a tinge of it, but not enough for me to even mention to anyone who asked "How's the exhaust system?"

And judging by how you and other people have responded, I'm fairly glad I don't own a Mazda. Owning my Volkswagen has made me appreciate the people on the forums, and come to think of it, I've never had an issue with anyone, even in a controversial topic, which this should not be!

That being said, why judge a vehicle based on the forum? This forum is relatively tame, actually. I have known plenty of VW owners that were douchebags. I don't hate VW because of that. Heck, look at BMW. That kid that ran 3 people over in Cali with his Daddy's. I don't hate BMW.

Brother, if the ascents are not 45* and you're right, what do I care? I can post a photo tomorrow and the truth of it will come out. I honestly don't think they are 45* anymore, or maybe that I misunderstand what 45* is, because the road I posted looked 20* to me in my photo, yet someone tells me it's much less than that?

Anyway, I deal with people bleeding all over the place and dying on a regular basis, and then I come home, and go about my business on forums and other mundane stuff. I promise that nothing you have to say on here is going to stress me out a whole heap of a lot.

Back to the topic on hand, I don't see why you're hung up on the oil issue and dogging the dealership.
