Alarm install - Driver Priority Unlock

Car = '02 Protege5

Install is complete, but having door-lock issues. I realize that it is a single-wire (-) lock/unlock. But how do I wire in the Driver's door priority unlock (so that it will unlock the driver on one push, and the rest on two pushes)? The alarm has 2 unlock wires ... do I need to use both, or wire both of them to the lock/unlock relay circuit?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I have been scratching my head over this for a while now!

I just did this in a 98' Protege 2 days ago. What you do is use the main unlock wire to go to a relay, have the relay send 12volts to the motor in the drivers door. The motor has 2 wires, both rest at ground all the time, when you add 12v to 1 wire the door will unlock, when you add 12v to the other wire it will lock. Find the wire that needs 12v to unlock. The other wire you can leave alone. (You need the wire that actually goes to the motor itself...I pulled the door panel off and found out what color it is, then found the same wire in the driver's kick panel). The wire in my case was Blue, not sure about yours.

Then, I took the wire from the alarm that is set up for "2nd unlock" (meaning when you puch the unlock button a second time it sends a signal) and hooked that wire up to the power unlock wire for the car...the one that unlocks all doors. Then hook up the lock wire from the alarm to the power lock wire in the car, locking all doors.

So, when you push the unlock button once, the drivers door unlocks, push it again and all doors unlock (theoretically, the driver's door gets unlocked twice, but it will hurt nothing). Then when you lock, all doors will lock (you wouldn't want to lock just the driver's door).

The car I did required relays for the regular unlock/lock wire of the car, and lock required the use of a resistor. So, I ended up using 3 relays total. Your situation may vary.

This sounds very correct ... after digging around in the car for the last three days testing, cutting, soldering, taping, heat-shrinking, taping, wire-looming, and wire-tying, this is what I thought would work. I have managed to get the all-door lock function working but was hesitant to rip into the driver's door if I didn't have to. I will see if I can get to this tomorrow night - it's not a major issue for me, but it would be a nice feature to have!

Thanks so much for the in-put. It is truly appreciated!

so that relay thing from best buy worked out for you? or did you just manually wire up some basic relays?
im projectprotege on the12volt.com BTW in case your wondering lol

Yeah, worked like a dream. One press unlocks the drivers, a second unlocks the others. That was my first attempt at progressive unlock...pretty cool though. I think its probably a little safer too, especially for my girlfriend...I guess I could see where a woman at night wouldn't want all the doors unlocking without her knowing who was on the other side of the car waiting to jump in.
