Al Gore speaks on the Iraq threat circa 92'

You don't know how much it pains me to say this especially since I believe in the human spirit and in the basic human desire to just live a decent life but I think this might just be the case.
I disagree, deep down I think just about everyone wants to do good, and that's what keeps my hope alive.

I knew a "western style" democracy was probably out the question but I was hoping that with our help they could fashion their own Democracy that would work for them and the sensitive to their need and traditions but its seems like all their govt. officials are utterly incapable of getting the job done.
I really agree here. I was hoping they could build a democracy for themselves that worked for them. The way they set up the elections and everything was horrible. they need to disassemble the current Govt' and reconstruct from the foundation up. You cannot give the oppressed people power all of a sudden and expect peace.

I really am holding out hope that they can get it done though. I don't want our actions there to be in vain.

I just can't believe the inhumanity that goes on throughout the world, and feel all who perpetrate that should be held accountable. Call it bigotry, or whatever you want, but I am right.

How can you be "Right" if you say they are all "Wrong"?

Are you catching on yet?

You would rather be a bigot than to think maybe some people just aren't cut out for democracy? You lump yourself right in with them with this line of thinking.

Sorry...but that's how I see it.

Question: Say we go into Darfur and for whatever reason, we can't stop the genocide. The forces killing the refugees and driving them out of their homes turn to more and more brutal tactics. Hypothetically say the situation just goes nuts and things look grim, and the US lead coalition is taking massive losses do we just day: I guess some people just can't stop commiting genocide. Its just their nature! and say screw it? If we go into Darfur and things take a turn for the worse, what then?

Then again, I take a look at whats going in Palestine and you've got two radical groups in Hamas and Fatah looking to obliterate each other and I'm starting to wonder: what the HECK is in the water down there that makes those people want to continually be embroiled in some sort of murderous rage?

Maltreatment of your fellow man is wrong. (braindead

Giving people freedom is right.

I guess I'm not catching on to whatever you got there...

I think we can make Iraq (and hopefully influence the rest of the ME to be) a free, and peaceful country.

I know it's far fetched, and it's a long shot, but so was leaving England, finding a new land, conquering it and starting this great country.

But they have done it for THOUSANDS of years. What makes you think we can change that?

Giving? I would hardly call what we have done in Iraq "Giving".

The way we live does not work everywhere in the world..it's that easy.

Never happen..but keep dreamin'..the world needs dreamers.

Yea..I love how we came here and killed millions of the true owners of the land, then put the leftovers on reservations.

Dont get me wrong, I love America...but what we did to millions of Indians is wrong and in no way shape or form comparable to Iraq.

I will, and I'll continue having hope for the rest of the world, so they may live happy and free lives, like me, eventually.

You are right it was a terrible thing that we did to the Native Americans.

I was just using that as an example of another crazy idea that would never work in the eyes of many.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree (like we were ever going to change eachothers viewpoints on the i-net). (2thumbs)

Like I said I respect your opinion, and I truly do understand why you think their way of thinking over there will prevent them from truly being free.

I can still hope though.
