Hi
Its time for a new air filter and Iam trying to decide if I should go with the stock filter or a K&N.I have always used K&N filters on my other vehicles and bikes, but I recently heard that they let alot of dirt through.
Please Help
Thanks

I used a WIX in my CX7. Never been a fan of reuseaqble do to the mess and possibility of excess dirt passage.

ok is that a performance filter, iam looking for one that get high air flow for better acceleration and mpg.iam sure the best way would be to put a cold air intake but I am worried about it voiding the existing warranty

The OEM intake does take in cold air as the intake is in front of the car. I question the "cold" air intakes where the air is pulled from the hot engine compartment. AS for high flow, I am sure the Mazda engineers have sized the OEM intake system to be more than adequate. If you modify any part of the engine, it is up to the dealer if your warranty stays intact but, the warranty is clear that ANY modification to increase power such as intakes or exhaust systems is a no no. Thanks for the info.CAI are very popular and it seems to me the design should without a doubt get more airflow than the stock setup.I think for now I will just put the K&N in and wait until the extended warranty runs out before adding a CAI.As i noted in my first post I have used K&N air filters for years and i always noticed a increase in accel in every car I ve put them in, but recently I read some info that stated K&N filters dont really filter that well , meaning they get great airflow but let some smaller particles through that other paper air filters stop,so that made me think twice. i figured I would ask here and see what others have to say about it.
