Air Filter Cover

Anyone know how to remove the cover for the air filter? I saw the two tabs, but not sure how to remove the cover after that.
 
Undo the two clips.

Slide the cover to the left.

Lift and set up on the tab in front of it.


Change/Clean Filter


Place the cover back on.

Slide to the right.

Press the bow of the clip to reinstall.

Check disposables every time you change the oil, and replace it when it's dirty.
Better yet, just replace it at each oil change.

No schedule will fit your exact conditions.
 
Cover won't slide shut...

Ok guys... I just received my OEM filter (CY01-13-Z40A). Took out the old/dirty filter (orange rubber) and put in the new one (black rubber). When I tried sliding the cover back on, it does not slide back into the three slots. It's seems the new filter is sitting a little bit higher than the old one, making it practically impossible to slide the cover closed.

Along the edge on the old filter had like a notch all the way around (where the filter material met the rubber), and this notch fits over a ridge that is inside the "Air Cleaner Body" compartment. This notch causes the filter to sit lower in the compartment, allowing the cover to slide closed practically effortlessly.
The new filter does not have the notch around it and thus it seems to sit higher, which forces you to try applying extreme pressure to try sliding shut into the three holes. When I look closely I can't understand why, but that's my theory.

Has anyone encountered this or heard of it? Am I missing something? Please help!!!!
 
Do you guys bother to unplug the MAF when you are doing the change. It seems like I can't move the top cover very far cause the cable plugged into the sensor is pretty short. If so how do you unplug it? It looks like you need to pull the red tab out and then unplug it?
 
I don't think you need to unplug the MAF. You just life the cover high enough to remove/put in the filters.
I have the K&N. The edge is also significantly thicker than the OE filter. I had to apply a fair amount of downward force to slide the cover
back into the slots.
 
I use a fram air filter and it is exactly the same as the original filter i pulled out even the color. I had no problems putting the cover back on.

Now, next question, how do you think about the K&N filters? worth the extra? any fuel/MPG improvement at all?

Seems to run and accelerate a bit better, but mpg, dunno yet.
 
K&N filter does not improve MPG, at least not that I have observed anyway.
With K&N, the engine is more responsive (i.e. RPM revs up faster).
You do risk allowing more particles to enter the engines.
That goes with "high flow".

However, 39K so far. No problem. Cleaned and re-oiled it once.

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly do you mean by "re-oil" the air filter?
 
K&N filters are life-time.
You DO NOT replace the filters. That is the side benefit of using K&N filters.
You only need ONE.
In addition to filtering, K&N filters also rely on the thin layer of oil on the filter to trap dirts.
K&N sells a kit that consists of a bottle of cleaner and a bottle of oil.
When the filter gets dirty (says 20K miles), you spray the cleaning solution on the
filter. Let it work for 5 mins. Spray water on the filter. Once clean, let it completely dry.
When it does, you spray a thin layer of oil on the filter again.
Don't over-oil it. Excessive oil might damage the O2 sensor.
That is pretty much it.
