Aftermarket stereo for BOSE . . . is anyone interested?

Seems like this forum is sort of hit-and-miss.

Just did a changeout of the OEM Blose err, bose system . . . I'm normally inclined to a long, picture-ridden writeup, but if no one is interested, I don't have THAT much free time on my hands.

Let me know if anyone is interested/in need.

P.S. Starting a class-action lawsuit about that stereo removal/installation procedure . .

I'm interested to see what the final product looks like.. speaking for myself, I don't really need an install guide, just curious how it looks.. Did you go with the Metra Fascia?

Sorry, this is on my to-do list; I've got the pics on the camera, just not had the time to download/downsize/upload them.

Will try to get it by the end of this week.

EDIT! yes, metra, a-la US model. It's weird, the upside-down trapezoid of the OEM area with a square unit makes it look like the unit isn't actually rectangular. Good thing NO ONE sticks with the double-din model anymore

If a how-to was made, I don't see why we couldn't start a how-to section and get it moved over.

I'm working on the pics tonight; still sweating a VSS wire - I'm hating the foliage right now.

--- I'll see how quick I can get the pics up to start. My new mac bit the dust, so it's been a pita getting things going again.

Working in Gimp as we speak.

I guess I'm sort of an idiot, but I've actually been following your progress on a few other forums (Mainly with Mr. Thilo, but not the UK forums).... If you were to post a How-To I would probably love you forever, as I am going to be tackling this exact same project in the next month or so, and if I understood correctly you had some problems with wiring.... LOOKIN GOOD!

It's never dumb to be super careful with your car . . . I've been trying to sit down and do this all at once, but it's not working out so well. This link I just finished up; I was trying to keep the code as simple (searchable) as possible so it's all HTML.

What isn't covered:
You will lose clock.
You will (obviously) lose song text.
Phone controls are not available for SWI programming - very lame.
Aux is on another connector, but could technically be re-integrated.
You'll be better off with a stereo that allows adjustment of preout voltage if you're not bypassing the amp.
Try to solder some extra length into your harness . . . you're better off with a double din unit to loop the wiring around back, since there's barely enough room behind the radio bay for all the extra stuff.

Hope that helps enough for now.

Nice work on the install Ernie. Definitely looks pretty in-depth for the install, but the result seems to be worth it.

Now if I can only get the g/f's car to do a little 'experiment'...

Hehe thanks.

Just got the VSS installed and it's acting proper now. Pics are up of the antenna and wire fish . . .

If someone knows of a 09 w/o bose that's doing a GPS install, I'm curious:
1) if the harness has the correct pin for VSS (since it's for the amp or nav)
2) if not, if you can just insert a pin into the cluster and have it work (since it's output)

More updates:
Reworked the harness layout so it's more readable. Added the second harness to the stereo.

Interestingly, if you have Bluetooth and SIRIUS, the aux input actually goes to the SIRIUS module.

I'm going to see about doing up the amp harnesses as well since it seems that no one's posted any of this on the internet yet that I'd found.

Okay - walkthrough posted with images adjusted; it should be enough for an industrious individual to get their way through it.

I'll go through the grunt work of actually writing up the wiring directions later, but everything is there that you need.

I still need to swap out my steering wheel controls, add a light sensor for a better illum setup, run new speaker wires and toss some good speakers in. Then figure out if I'm up to doing tweeters, 3x3" (front center and rear deck) and then a subwoofer in the rear deck, but I've got to get tint and a rear DVD for my boy before I get to the highs and sub.

Ernie - Thanks for the pics and detail! Are you using the AUX input that came with the car? If not, and you are interested, I would be interested in it since mine doesn't have it. I can send the cap I have to keep the look clean for you.

I've got that on my to-do list. I want to try and get a pigtail that I can splice onto it, but I've had an infinite list of things to do that's NOT getting done. I've still got to put REAL speakers in, and I'm specing up the OE speaker dimensions for those who want to replace them all in the factory locations.

Ideally, I'd like to have a speaker in each location . . . tCorr is just not an option since Pioneer doesn't think it's worth-while. If I had gobs of cash, I'd do one of those REALLY nice alpine amps that do it all for you with the mic and a tripod . . .

Of course, if I had gobs of cash, I'd also have the car and the house paid off, the kitchen and bathrooms refaced, new tires, a less stressful job . . . um, where was I :D

It's on my to-do list, I really got to get my hands on a parts distributor that doesn't ring up sales with a handkerchief over his face and a revolver in his hand :o
