Aftermarket Sat Nav

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for a great forum and excellent information.

I bought a 2010 Mazda CX-9 GT without satellite navigation. I now want to get the official Mazda Satellite Navigation unit but am not able to find it anywhere.

Can anybody help please tell me where I can source one of these units from?

Many thanks in advance

Laith

I have a 2010GT w/nav. I'm not going to bash it because I knew it going in, but you would be better served with a Garmin or TomTom. I would bet it is pretty costly to add after the fact and the units I mentioned (even the low end models) work way better.

Other than in difficult situations where sat signals are lost, the aftermarket ones generally have better programming, and do not lock you out while in motion.
OE Navigation takes steering angle input (gyro) and VSS (vehicle speed sensor) to extrapolate your locations when sat signals are lost. This could happen in tunnels, forests, parking structure, among skyscrapters, etc. Besides, it usually takes a while for Garmin to boot up, while it takes only 5 seconds for OE navigation. Why? Because it assumes that your OE unit is not going too far off from your last position, while such assumption is not valid on portable units.

thanks for reply
i think i'm looking for the original ......... if any one knows where to source one (OE NAV unit).

thank you

It isn't just a matter of changing out your in dash head unit for the nav unit. The GPS antenna for the factor system is somewhere in ther roof near the back of the car as well.

IIRC someone on here did install factory nav in their vehicle and it cost them upwards of $2k.

You can get a MUCH better unit aftermarket with more features, cheaper updates, and full voice command for half the cost of factory, even if you found one.

As already stated, it would very difficult to install the factory unit anyway, since the proper harnesses and modules aren't there.
