has anyone heard anything about aftermarket grills or where you can get them?

I have been looking myself since April. There are 5 or so grills out there from difrent fabricators such as Autoexe and Kenstyle. The burning question is, are you inquiring about the grill for the 4 dr or 5 dr. Two diffrent grills. 4 dr easy swap. 5 dr not-so-easy swap. So the answer to the burning queation is..... (uhm)

I have a 5 dr and I have taken the grill off several times. Since I don't have a 4 dr I can't help you, but I will tell you how the 5 dr goes.
There is (5) 10mm nuts on the back of the grill. Some have long studs so I recommend a deep well. Then there are two clips that need to be compressed w/ a pair of pliers, then grill pops off. You can even remove the chrome Mazda emblem, but BE CAREFUL! The 5dr and the 4 dr don't have a single body panel in common so the grills are completely diffrent. Check yours out. If you are even remotely mechanically inclined it should be a snap.

Just to throw this out there

The 4 dr has a one piece grill, The 5 dr has a two piece grill, the top 2/3 lifts with the hood and the bottom 1/3 is molded to the front bumper. Therefore if it is to be replaced then the bottom must be painted/covered/removed or something. The 4 dr, the grill does not lift with the hood. It is one piece. That is what I meant by easy swap. If there is a product then it should be a bolt on item, i.e. no body work. So far the only 4 dr grill I recall seeing is a Kenstyle, although I'm sure there are others.
