Aftermarket cams worth the effort?

Hi, I was wondering if it's worth the trouble to install new cams on my p5. I have a CAI and aftermarket exhaust. OBX header is on the way as well as engine mounts and an Underdrive Crank Pulley. What kinda gains should i expect from these cams? http://mazda3online.web.aplus.net/product_info.php?cPath=281_21_31_46&products_id=1024
they claim they will give u up to 18 HP... anybody try em? What else should i do while i install these if i do so.
Thanks!

Hey, tell me about it man! They ain't cheap. That's why I wanna know if they make a decent difference in HP.
my guess is anything other then stock parts you replace with aftermarket parts you are bound to feel and gain a difference...without boosting it and keeping it all motor i think every performance mod will count

Or do the stand alone Haltech first. Same money but a bit better perf bump. THEN do the cams.

Actually go with the JDM intake cam only. (there are more cams like integral, but are super chichin)They have it at corksport.com for $180. I just ordered it and should be here today. You will see a gain 10-15hp with good mods. Also get some cam gears, get about maybe 5-7HP.

I'm curious to see an actual dyno of the JDM intake cam on a NA motor. And/or an explaination of what "good mods" are because I am highly skeptical of the 10-15 hp increase on a NA motor.

Well im going to install this week or the next:
MP3 ECU
Header
All Pulleys
Long reach plugs
port intake mani
Adj. Cam gears
Plus the cam.

I have a injen CAI already installed. I think they are good mods. All I need is a exhaust (going with Racing beat) and some motor mounts. My opinion is that with all these mods I can get the best out of the cam.

The MP3 ECU was designed for use with USDM cams, so you would probably get more out of the JDM cams if you do like Pfunk says and go Haltech.

I really wish i would have been here when twiggy stick came out. Is there anything close to what he was selling? or is jdm specs about the same??

So is a stock MP5 ECU. I didnt go with the ECU just for the cam but for the advance timing and the straighter line, also the added 4-5HP. Haltech is way to much, gonna run you about $1k so I heard. Twiggy cams are the best. But sucks they dont make it anymore.

so what's the verdict here? I'm a little confused now. I figured it would be best to get intake and exhaust cams so the engine can breathe better in and out. Is this the case or not? I have an aftermarket exhaust, CAI and have a header, UDCP and engine mounts coming in a week or so.
Can't wait to find out how those JDM cams do! 10-15 would be good enough for me for now, at least considering the price comparison.

aftermarket cams are a great performance purchase however from what i've read the JDM cams are a waste of money when compared to a custom ground set. Yes they will still provide gains but not as much as you could have with other more aggressive sets.

(iagree)

Anybody have any idea how much it would cost to have some custom cams ground (not in a GB, just individually). I have heard the integral cams are bettter than the JDM but they're so expensive, might it just be worth it to get some custom ground?

Well for $180 if I get at least a gain of 5hp is worth it for me. A gain is a gain. We all know there are better cams out there. But he is asking about the JDM. Yes the JDM will give you HP gain. I just got JDM intake cam, it will be in 2 days. Ill try to take it to the dyno with only cams and my CAI before I put everything else in.

Can't wait to see what u gain! Let us know how the installation went.
