Does anyone have any experience with after market key fob?... I'm looking to purchase a 3rd key fob.... I'm seeing ones on the internet for as low as$30.... However just wondering if anyone has ever done this?

If you have Advanced Keyless Entry system, you would need Mazda's computer to add additional key fob so that your car computer can recognize your third key fob with its unique ID. You can only cut a mechanical key blank without the need of Mazda computer but that can only open the door for you, can't start the engine.

They work but arent the same quality. Bought one for my girlfriends buick and after she dropped it a couple times the solder joints on the board broke.

Thanks....I really have a simple Requirement.. I'm using the feature where when you walk away from the car it automatically locks ( I love that feature) however I find myself in the garage at times needing to open/unlock the car to get something out.... And of course it is locked and the keys are upstairs...... so if I had a third key fob I would put it in a super secret place in my garage that I would only use it to unlock the car..... So do you think the aftermarket might work just for this?

It will have to be programmed and if you keep it close to the car your car will not lock. If you only want to get into the car copy the metal key. I put one on a magnetic box under the hood near the windshield wiper in case the car locks and I need to get in.

I bought a used fob and a new key blank on ebay. I went to the local Mazda dealer and had the car programmed to accept all three fobs. IIRC the cost was around $50. The local locksmith cut the key blank for $1. If you want to keep the fob in your car, you will need to wrap the fob in foil, or your CX-5 will not lock because it senses the fob.
