no, unless you had booted up the computer with the serial cable connected.

next time, boot up to your desktop, the connect the serial cable, then turn ignition on the device then click connect.

are you using a laptop with a serial connection or qa USB-toSerial adapter?
on this dell, the serial port is the 9-pin green male connector (the blue 25-pin female connector is the VGA output)

hope this helps..

The laptop has a usb connection on the side. We kept ignition off until we were ready to link.

So you are saying to try and have everything ready loaded on the laptop, then connect the cable to the laptop and the AFC, then ignition on and connect??

yes, not waiting until the computer is booted up makes windows think that the AFC is actually a serial mouse(lame)
so you must wait until everything is booted up (hard dirve light not blinking as much)
connect your USB cable
connect the serial cable to the AFC
open ignition on the AFC
start up the R4 software, select the correct port and click connect.

Most people use a serial to usb cable since laptops haven't had serial connectors in quite some time. The driver your computer wants is for the serial to usb adapter. Try plugging it into the laptop while you have an internet connection to see if it can find the driver. If not post the make and model or just replace it with a different adapter. GL

Fast responses! AlejoNIN has you covered!

Mine is serial to usb from Radioshack.. Im not very good with understanding drivers and all that business! Currently I don't have wifi, so can i connect the cable to the computer in the house when I have an internet connection to find the driver?

I'm just going to by a new cable sometime this week. I really don't have time until Saturday so mess with it again.

How much boost can i run safely? It looks like 8 psi is best but I want to make sure. I have a catless downpipe, ets smic, forge bpv and hard hot pipe?

safely?
NO BOOST IS EVER SAFE

now, how much boost is recommended, that's another story.
on the FSDE stock (no internal engine mods)
6PSI from fatcory is good..but we've seen poeple doing 11PSI with mods.

if you have ZERO MODS, walk away, your car isn't ready for boost upgrades yet.

now, if you post your mods we could guesstimate how much boost you can run "safely"
