advice on starting to mod my p5?

I've heard other guys with other cars that bought Megan Racing s*** and they love it, so I don't know. I personally have looked at their exhaust but my cheap ebay fart can works good and the meineke 2.5in exhaust piping works fine too, never had problems with it, other than the welder is a tool and didnt weld the hangers on right and they broke off a week afterwards. But all is good now.

great news everyone. just got a s*** ton of money from a car wreck i was part of a few years ago. so i actually have the resources to put s*** on my car. intake is in the mail, should be here by tomorrow or so. any advice on exhausts? i was eyeing the one offered by megan racing, but then again im clueless as far as this whole process goes.

Don't waste your money on that s***. its a over priced muffler with some pipe welded on. Go to then nearest muffler shop and tell them u want 2.25in piping from the cat back and go find a muffler u like, if you want a deeper tone get a muffler with a bigger exit port. I think mine is like a 4in tip, but make sure when u get the muffler you like that the inlet hole is big enough to fit the 2.25in piping. You can also have them hack out your resonator(s) and weldin 2.25in piping there as well. If you are buying a header, don't waste the money on the OBX racing header of any of that s***...go on Ebay and find you a 4-1header like I did...read the specs...its the same s*** as the OBX...everyone that I know is all nut twisted about name brand s***...why wast hundreds of dollars when you can spend half or less as much on s*** that is just as good and gets the job done just as good.

My header is ebay and my exhaust is actually 2.5in piping cuz the guy before me is a moron and put too big of piping on it but its all good. my intake is a AEM Short Ram. Header is a Ebay "Tsudo 4-1 header" My car runs great and loves the mods.

thanks dude. probably just saved me an assload of money haha. i ordered one of the cheap ass short rams off of ebay. i'll probably order the header within a few weeks. i cant wait to start putting stuff on.

yeah i was looking to get some powder black 18s and maybe a carbon fiber hood then a drop.

When you look at 18's look on here somewhere for any issues with rubbing. My boy chad..hes on here too somewhere, but hes got some Axis 18s on his P5 and he rubs real bad, and hes only dropped on a Eibach Pro-Kit which I have the same kit, and I think its a 1.6in in the Front and 1.8in in the Rear. He rubs really bad. My suggestion if you want a clean look is do like what we got and try the pro-kit with some 17s and get some 215/45/17's they are really damn close to the overall stock wheel size so your speedo wont be off much. 18's are nice, but just the protege wasn't designed to stuff them in the wheel wells and make them work.

Oh, I also wanted to say that we did roll Chad's fenders and he still rubs...cuz I'm sure some guy with 18's was about to mention that idea. I know that there are guys that run 18's and they do work, but you have to put money into coilovers or a badass strut to keep the car from moving around much, and then replace the sway bars with something much stiffer. I've got the AWR 21.5mm with adjustable end links, its a nice bar, probably the best part I've bought for my car.

If you want specific parts or suggestions on parts just let me know I can reccomend you stuff all day long..and that will save you a ton of money because I'm a firm believer in saving money on parts lol. Even if its not as good as the spendy s*** its probably still worth it.

Just hit me up.

Look around for CF hoods, a lot of people think the Evo style VIS hood is the only one out there, but there are others, I think Street Unit.com and maybe SLSperformance.com sell a different style hood. Both are reasonably priced.

You can run 18s easily without rubbing with the correct offset and wheel width. If you decide to stick with an 18x7.5 wheel (no wider) stick to offsets between +48 mm and +55 mm. Also, with an 18x7.5 wheel you should be running a 215/35R18 tire. There are lots of people here running 18" wheels with no problems.

I'm sure that 18's are doable as far as being able to drive and not rub, however I would far from ever suggest them to race on, if you ever do AutoX or any other type of racing similar to that. Too each their own, I just prefer the simplicity of 17's and that they are closer to the factory wheel/tire diameter so the speedometer stays the same. If you are just wanting something that looks good and functions pretty well then ya go for 18's.

You can keep a near factory wheel/tire height with just about any wheel size out there (minus 20" and up of course). Stock tire size for the P5 is 195/50R16 and 215/40R17 and 215/35R18 are like within 0.1% of that same size so there's no issue there. As for autox you just want the lightest wheel/tire combination possible. For example, the 18s I plan on getting in the future (Volk CE28Ns) weigh only about 14 lbs and a 215/35R18 tire weighs 20 lbs or less. That's actually less than the 17 inch combination with the same wheel. Look at Tri-Point's race cars; they run larger wheels.

From what I know, there's a standard CF hood (modeled after the stock hood), two Evo style hoods, and a CF ram air hood. Small list, but all really great. I've also seen a non-CF hood with a hood scoop for our cars.

There is another one that I've seen. That Pirana guy from here that was in I think Modified magazine runs one of the reverse scoop hoods that Ive seen. I'll go find the links for the two I've found...just gimme a min.

One is on Street Unit and the other is on Protege Garage

The first one is the one I'm buying just because I haven't seen it on any other cars before so I'm buying that one and the CF trunk that matches.

Not that Proteges are real popular in any city you go to, I can count like on one hand how many proteges...including MSP's that are running around my city that have any mods done to them.

the street unit one is tight, i think i might get that for mine too haha. i couldnt find one that i liked, but that one looks pretty dope.

Is that an Evo 8-9 style CF hood?
I'd like to see a picture of it on a P5!

I'm not sure, but it sure does look like it. I wanted the other hood, but the more I look at it the "evo 9" one looks really good and I'm thinking bout doing that one on my car. Lol, but I don't wanna be like Pirana and be a copy cat, lol.
