advice on starting to mod my p5?

duuudes i think i found some mildly sick looking megan racing lowered springs. they're pretty cheap, should i jump on it? is it an easy/cheap install?

easy install if you got the right tools and air tools... but will still take some time... most shops around here charge about $250 to do springs

CAMBER KIT too, cause those megan springs are biggg drop..and look into shocks, how old are your shocks?
u dont want blow them while ur driving.
so if ur gettin springs plan on having bout another 150 on ya cause ur gona need alignment, and endlinks if u strip those. The endlinks being replaced is real common.

Free/cheap mods: (oh yeah! Get to work on time!! Slacker! You have a baby to support now! ;) )

*Wire fogs on with parking lights
*Wire sunroof to open/close w/o key

is there a how to for these??
and could the fogs be wired so they come on even with out the park lights?

I always thought the Megan Racing springs drop was less than advertised by quite a bit. I forget who, but there are a few members here running them and their cars didn't really look that low. At least, not as low as the Goldlines or Tein S-Techs. I'm a little weary about anything from Megan Racing though...

Don't just do springs without struts, or you'll blow your stock struts.

oh. and i know jack s*** about cars, so im clay for the molding. chances are you guys know how to make my car go faster than i do, so have at it.

If you want the car to go faster, lemme just say, you started with the wrong car. lol

It takes A LOT of money to make this thing straightline fast.

Now, throw a nice suspension setup under there and some good rubber, you'll be zipping through corners like nobody's business!

This is a fun nimble little car, but is no straightline rocket.

the megan springs drop like 18 front and 1.6 rear or something around there
they advertise 2 all around, but i would not suggest getting them unless you get tokico illuminas, they are the only ones i have heard that can handle how low the springs go with out blowing prematurely

rear is gona be more than that cause its hatch tho,
i got the 1" drop all around tokico blue shock/spring combo, and my rear looks like its got almost a 1.6drop, rather than the 1" its suppose to be.

these are made specifically for the p5 though, but i get what your saying
my tokico blue/tanabe df210 spring combo def dropped more then they advertised

the rear looks perfect, about 1 finger in between the tire and the fender

the front could go a little lower, maybe like .5 or .625 from the tire to the fender
not much diff but if your like me, u will be able to tell

I did the Tokico Illumina's and Eibach Pro Kit on my 02 ES and I'm very satisfied with them. The drop was I believe 1.8 rear and 1.6 in the front, but I'm sure it dropped it more than that. As far as the springs go, everyone is right, save the money up for a alignment. If you go to Firestone, they do a lifetime alignment for like 130$, thats what I did, and its for the lifetime of the car so you are good for a long long time and save yourself the money in the long run.

If you are wanting to go fast in a protege, keep praying or take out a loan, cuz it wont happen unless you drop some cash.

I just did a cheap Ebay header (same specs as the OBX one) 2.5in header-back exhaust O2 sensor/plug non fouler mod, AEM short ram intake (don't wanna risk sucking up water) with a ebay $20 fart can. I haven't noticed a lot of difference. I've done other things to the car but mainly suspension stuff. AWR 21.5mm rear sway bar with the adj. endlinks ( which are junk by the way, I broke a set the first week the bar was on lol) B&M short shifter, Kartboy shifter bushing. 10mm Nology plug wires, Denso Iridium plugs. There is more but I can't think of it right now, its late here in Afghanistan lol.

Drilled and slotted rotors up front and slotted rotors in back with GranSport Carbon Ceramic brake pads with DOT4 brake fluid. Just FYI, those brake pads are the best pads I've ever seen...I put those on in Jan 2007, and they are still almost as thick as they were when I first bought them. Also 17x7 Motegi FF7's wrapped in Fuzion ZRi 215/45/17's (which for cheap ass tires are better than the Khumo's I had on there.

if you really wanna get an idea of what can be done... check out the previous MOTM threads

a camber kit is not needed for the megan springs. the drop is not enough to require it. but if you do buy them, save and buy the tokico illuminas. im not sure how long the hp's will last, but the stock struts wont last at all. for both the springs and illuminas i spent about 550.

i have two megan pieces on my car with no problems. the quality is excellent and the prices are great. got the springs and the mx-6 rear strut bar.
