Adding some boost!!!

A good manifold and downpipe are what you may want to get first. You can always find a turbo. If you want a T3/T4 mani, try to get a HiBoost mani. I say this because it is cast-iron and you won't have to worry about it cracking like a cheap steel mani. Reliability is tops.

good point man thanks... know what that goes for??

I wish I could tell you but I do not know. Like Magnum said, HiBoost has been somewhat absent as of lately. Ken at ProtegeGarage may be able to get ahold of Juan at HiBoost. I don't know for sure.

Finding one used would be very difficult. It would be much easier to find a used MSP mani and get a GT28RS if the GT25 is too small for you.

will do... thanks. ive been thinking what you said about cracking and i am sure i should just get the msp mani for now i guess considering i just want to get some more power and not really get too crazy. if this car goes down i would be screwed as this is my DD.

I won't tell you that the MSP mani won't crack because it has happened but I have seen a few of the steel manifolds crack...even some real expensive ones.

i dont really plan on putting out much more power than a mildly modded MSP set up runs anyway, i just want a bit more power, thats all.

i really do love you magnump5, I've been debating on posting almost the exact same thread but i generally get the 'use the search button' response to all of my question. your part list is going to be crucial. thank you.
Why thank you :)
so i plan on piecing this kit together myself, and i've noticed that the for sale section is hardly active,i dunno if this is just right now or always, but it hasnt changed since i've been a member. so since i plan on doing this piece by piece i was going to start with the turbo and the ecu. should i just go with the stock ecuthat you can get from protege garage for 300? would i find a used one for much cheaper? i plan on checking the junkyards around here, but since its not the most common car i dunno if ill find one.
Well what a lot of N/A people do is try to source a MSP ECU. Usually there is always one for sale somewhere. This is the route I chose to go as it's typically considered to be the easiest (except finding the ECU perhaps). You can't really run the stock P5 ECU and still go in boost safely but if you were to use some kind of tuning device theoretically you'd be fine. Something like the MPi tuner, AFC, etc would be preferrable. I'm probably going to try to throw my P5 ECU back on and see if I can tune it safely with the AFC but because I won't have timing control I'm a little hesitant (perhaps I'll switch to the FTC).
yeah this car is not common, turbo or not in the junkyard. good thing i guess. i am going to venture and do the ecu last and see if the pro5 ecu can be remapped...
There are currently no means to map or "flash" the stock ECU. You'd have to get either the MSP ECU or use on of the above mentioned tuning devices (preferrable even with the MSP ECU).

thanks magnum. you're a big help with all of this. how difficult would you say the install was? my knowledge is pretty limited when it comes down it pretty much anything to do with turbo set ups.

Well if all you've ever done to a car is oil and filter changes you might want to think about taking it to a shop or recruiting some friends with more knowledge. It isn't as intensive as an engine rebuild but you do need to know where everything is supposed to go and how everything works. I would say if you don't know much about this engine or the MSP setup to get help. I did a lot of research here before attempting anything and I felt I had a pretty good knowledge of how everything was supposed to be setup. It still took me over a day with fighting various parts and multiple runs to auto stores for random parts but overall the install isn't that bad.

I'm hoping that by the time i source everything that ill have found other board members that have done this install close by to help me,otherwise ill probably get stuck paying a shop to do it. which sucks.

if your looking for a ems i have a mpi for sale and it will work with your p5 ecu you just have to buy 2 more things

Sorry it took so long to get back, been busy as hell.

Start out by getting your hands on an MSP ECU. HiBoost T3 mani, and a good T3 turbo. Tial external Wastegate with a 10 psi spring, unichip, exhaust, FMIC. Gear the build around as much incoming airflow as you can. I know I need more, so it only seems logical to get a new intake mani.

I hope this helps Vel, if you have any ?'s, PM me and I will get back to you ASAP.

Didn't you get a shop to install yours?

yea he did........but me and him also swapped out his turbo when he sent it off to get rebuilt so im pretty sure he knows how hard it is after doin it on his own car with me hahaha

Haha I know you guys did, along with the mani and other stuff. I was just kidding with him.

He knows his stuff

p.s- When do you want to meet up so I can pick up my turbo and possibly lines? I might be going down there friday night if your going to be awake

Yep - the first time only but only because I had to work and I was leaving to go back to school the next weekend; ie no time!

Yeah, there was also that time we pretty much pulled off every IC pipe to drain them of water... There isn't much in the engine bay I haven't done now. Hell, I can swap IMs in like an hour now.

Damn straight! I'm going to have to do all that again here soon to install my MAM manifold and turbolife FMIC...
