Adding heated seats to Mazdaspeed3...

Heated mirrors are an easily added (but not cheap - about $250) upgrade.

Not quite right. The wiring for the heated mirrors is present on every US Mz3/MS3 (that have power mirrors at least) up to behind the tweeter panel in the door. However there is no wiring for the heated glass between the glass itself and the plug that connects to the car's wiring, nor are there pins in the mirror-side of the plug.

If you went with a full replacement housing that had the heated glass/wiring/correct pins then it costs ~$100/side. Five minutes to remove the old housings and connect the new one and you have heated mirrors.

Alternately you can do what I did and run the wiring from the glass to the plug and stick some new pins in the connector. About 30 minutes of work per side but the whole project cost less than $90.

and the mirror is in the blank spot next to the headlight adjustment/gauge brightness

It sounds like they added something aftermarket.... like some dealers will install alarms, etc. Sad since all the wiring is present in the car already. Is the heater some weird thing that blows on the back of the glass, or is there actually a heating element attached to the glass? Did they replace the housings? What other wiring did they screw around with? Finally what did they charge you for it?

Like Silver Ecstasy said the OEM wiring is tied to the rear defroster, so the mirror glass is heated when the rear glass is. That also means that they turn off when the rear defrost times out so you're not going to burn out the heating element.

Heated seats are nice, but why didn't a fully loaded car like the GT come with heated side mirrors?

Because no US 3's (or speed3's) come with heated side mirrors. Also no MS3's (at least in the US) come with heated seats, regardless of the trim. GT Mz3's do.

i have never heard of ms3's coming with heated seats or mirrors, or that even being a nation wide dealer option. Where can I get some plug and play heated mirrors, if they are available?

In the US, heated seats are not an option on either the sport or GT MS3. As far as easily adding them.... perhaps that is what the connection is for. I guess a good question would be... Do any Mazda3 models have heated seats? If so...I would say you could add them easily (pre-wired), but if not....

Oooo looky...found this picture on the MazdaUSA Website...the title of the picture contains M3S So I can only assume they mean the Sport model...Thats where the switches go. If there are connections behind that console...probably two of them...you probably just need to buy the heated seat switch panel...more than likely easily orderable from the dealership...install and bobs your uncle...provided we ARE pre-wired of course...

I have also noticed wiring under the seats...is this for the SRS airbgs only? or is there secretly a wiring harness for the heated seats wrapped in there?

Not sure if heated mirrors were ever an option in the US but I think all Canadian model MS3s have them standard. MS3s up here only come in GT trim and like someone else already mentioned, the heated mirrors are tied into the rear defroster. I wouldn't be surprised if MS3s and Mazda3s come pre-wired for heated mirrors but it WOULD be surprising if MS3s also came pre-wired with all hardware for heated seats. It's not as simple as just some wiring because there's the heating element or pad that needs to be built into the seatbacks.

I would LOVE to be able to add heated seats though, it's been freezing here lately!

I got mine from OnLineMazda. Check here for my How-to.
icspots did a cheaper version, but is not plug-and-play. It's a bit fiddly to do but definitely possible.

that looks pretty plug and play to me...whats not plug and play about it?
The way I did it, it is plug and play. The way icspots did it you have to string wires through the hinge and make some connector pins to get the power to the mirrors; his is a lot cheaper though. It's a simple trade off between money and effort & care.

ill spend more money, just for the plug and play factor. I don't like running wires all over the car
Actually, the wires aren't "all over the card". They are just inside the mirror head.

I think icspots did a great job figuring this out. I first purchased just the mirrors but got cold feet when it looked like I had to take things further apart so I opted for the more expensive simpler route. He took it from their and showed us how it could be done. Certainly if you got the money, my way is tons easier.

does the speed6 come with heated seats and are they the same as what is in the speed3? if so then the elements may possibly be there since they just make the seats on the same production.

Like Rotus said my way was cheaper but more involved. There is perhaps 12" of wire that I added in the mirror housing only. I bought a pack of $.99 diodes to use the legs as new pins the harness. I just wired up a few friend's cars the other day and I was down to <15min per mirror getting them wired.

While it's possible that there's wiring somewhere for the heated seats I'm nearly certain there isn't. There definitely aren't heating elements in the seats themselves.... that would be ridiculous.

As to this picture from above

That is from a regular Mazda 3 (non-speed) and is the GT trim with the NAV option.

Off subject sorry.

I'm not fully understanding this. My car (08.5 MS3 Sport) already has heated mirrors and I just need to wire them up? Im' a little confused lol

All North American 3's (at least those with power mirrors) have the wiring for heated mirrors up until where the car's harness plugs into the mirror housing itself. There's no wire between the mirror side of the plug and the glass, and there are no pins in the mirror side of the harness to mate up with the car's harness plug.

If you replace the stock glass with glass that has a heating element and run the wire from the glass to the plug then everything will work perfectly. See my How To for details on how to do this.

Oh alright now I understand, it has the wiring but it still needs the glass. Alright right on thanks bro.
