Accidentally Reversed Jumper Cables

In a super goober move tonight I accidentally put the positive jumper cable on the negative, negative on the positive. Tried to start the car and it didn't even make a click which caught my attention. I immeadiately ran to the front of the car and took of the jumper cables as quick as I could. Unfortunately the damage had been done.

Now, the battery is completely dead. Remote entry no longer works, no radio or interior lights, no dinging when door is open with key in ignition. Right now the only thing that works are the headlights when i turn them on. Any idea what to do next? Is the battery toast? Alternator maybe? Fuses? BTW, the car is a 2002 P5.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

ok how can the battery be completly dead, yet still power on the headlights?

Check the fuse box in the engine bay. I believe there is a main fuse that is prob blown (if your lucky).

Ha...yeah, I didn't even realize that I said that. All of the electrical devices not working (other than headlights) made me think the battery was totally dead. Just a little frazzeled tonight.

I'll check the fuse and post back. Thanks.

Jason..
if you are ever around the Baltimore/No Virginia area and wanna meet up with all of us Mazda lovers, let me know or check out the MEC section of the boards. :) Btw- do you know where Friendsville is?

I'm from a little north of Baltimore (Bel Air) and go home quite often. Friendsville is right off of 68, near the MD/WV border. I go through there all the time and the way home from WVU.

Check all the fuses, I am pretty sure something is just burnt out, I hope its not the ECU tho.

Take a look at the service manuals, someone here hosts them, otherwise I have them mirrored if you need another link. It describes how to take it out, I think it is screwed in from the side. It might even be covered in the owner's manual.

If you could send me that link it would be great. Thanks.
