Acceleration Noise

Anyone reported a high pitched sound during acceleration? Apparently the sound is so high pitched that not everyone can hear it. But those who can say it is consistent and when they tested another CX-5, the same sound was heard.

I think I've heard that. I've heard that in other vehicles as well. Not sure what it is.

Apparently this is annoying to the point of wanting to return the vehicle, or not noticeable at all depending on your hearing. Coming from someone who was used to an older Mazda 3.

There is a noice... it almost sounds like its in the background... if the radio is off and the fan is off you can hear it during acceleration... it is annoying only if you pay attention... not a big deal.

Yes, I hear a lot of noise during acceleration, mostly mechanical, some intake, some exhaust, all sounds pretty normal for a 2.0L DOHC direct injected in-line 4. It does sound far different than six and eight cylinder engines. I haven't heard the high-pitched noise yet.

The CX-5 uses a new high pressure direct injection system - the injection pressure has to be substantually higher than its compression pressure - my guess is it is the injectors you hear, I am to old and lost my high freq hearing so I do not hear mine. They will probably engineer that out in the future. I had a 1983 Town Car that was an early throttle body fuel injection that if you listened cried noticably on hard acceleration, it did so for over 200,000 fairly hard miles but the newer models did not.

GAXIBM - Possibly a good guess. I'll try to listen for it. I have 2 vehicles with direct injection, certainly can hear it at ticking at idle.

When I turn off the car, I car hear a faint high pitched sound coming from the front bumper. It stops after a minute or two, but have no idea what it could be.

I hear it too. I'm guessing it has to do with headlights still being on. I haven't really tested it out, but it seems to stops when the lights turn off.

Mine does that too.

Interesting discussion. I used to hear what you're all describing on my Mazda 3. But the sounds I am getting on my CX-5 will differ from all of yours due to engine difference.
I don't hear the sound you're speaking of. I do hear a lot of different ones though :)

The sound is sort of like a broken dog whistle right?

I have seen this thread for a while and decided to test it out not noticing anything for a couple weeks. Turned the radio down and concentrated on a high pitched noise.
I did hear something just barely while accelerating on an on-ramp, highway to highway. It sounded almost like an old school kazoo/whistle/toy thing. I steadied speed at 60 mph and would slowly accelerate to 65 mph. I could only hear it very faintly only when I concentrated for it. Once the engine reached a certain RPM I could not hear it. Road noise made it less noticeable. I could not hear it accelerating from zero mph. Could be my heavy foot.

This is great news! Maybe my hearing isn't as bad as I thought because I can definitely hear the sound. I'm used to it now though...so it ain't no thang but a chicken wing.

I'm hearing something as well, to me it sounds almost like an "electric" noise if I can describe it that way, that seems to be coming from somewhere behind/near the steering wheel when I'm driving. The sound sometimes stops when decelerating if I remove my foot from the gas pedal but follows the engine noise somewhat otherwise and can also be heard when stopped, like at stoplights. Then again, I can only hear that when the radio is off or at a very very low volume so it is not very disturbing.

My Mazda3 did something like that as well, that sound could be heard especially when stopped at stoplights and again with the radio off, but the noise is different on my CX-5 at least.

Exactly the same as mine.

I hear it on mine too. It is kind of a whiny, high pitched sound but too faint to actually bother me and I usually drive with the radio on.

I have had my car for 2 months and it never made any sound and now suddenly i am hearing this "squeaky" sound when i go over 20mph .... It gets louder and louder as speed increases and its very irritating because i feel like its coming from the left side and i can still hear it over the radio. Im going to have the service people check it out tomorrow i will let u know if they fix it or what they say is causing that noise
