AC problems! (Yes, I searched)

Okay, this isn't the typical problem of the AC not working on the '2' or '3' settings, it is something different.

Well, I did the 'EGR removal' today and wanted to improve my idle. That went without a hitch. I unplugged the battery also to reset the PCM.

So I'm driving, AC works fine and then my CEL comes on and my AC is still blowing, amber light is still on, but now the air is warm.

After work, I went home, went to read the manual (whatever I could understand) and checked my motor again.

- Tighten my belts a little
- Checked all 3 fuses
- Checked for leaks
- Checked the compressor
- Checked the fan

They all seem to be operating or appear to look fine. I again reset the PCM. I started the car and as soon as I did, my car kind of shook more than usual and I immediately threw a CEL.

My AC still works but blows warm air. Yes, it isn't the controls on the center consule, I checked that also. It is on the usual AC setting (green light) and circulation mode (orange light).

Any help or comments is welcomed please!

Thanks,
Chris

man I have no idea what it is, but for me to even think about AC now is nuts. It makes me feel so much colder it hurts. Bastards, why cant i be closer to the equator

LOL, no problem dude. Yes, in Hawaii we actually use our AC 365 days a year o.O

Go out and watch your compressor clutch whilt the car is running and the AC is on...See if its cycling on and off....the center will spin with it on and stop with it off....The outer pulley will always spin while the motor is running but it sounds as if the compressor is not turning...The inside Blower motor will always work as long as its called for by you with the switch.

Check the CEL code in the computer. Some of the codes will cause the computer to disable the AC. A severe EGR issue is probably one of them.

This is quite possible...I just thought I would show him the easy way to see if it was running at all...Then we could have tracked it from there...My way can be done by anyone anywhere and yours requires reading codes....But I do agree with you.

Thanks guys! I had a feeling that was the problem. Yes ForceFed, like you said, the center doesn't spin but the blower motor works.

I removed the EGR like instructed in the how to, cleaned it, followed the instructions, and reinstalled it. I will go under the hood tonight and check again. I guess I'll drive around with no AC for a bit so I don't ruin anything further.

Your problem could be a lot of things. Best bet with A/C really is to have someone check it if the engine code isn't leading you in the right direction. I'm not saying you should pay them to fix it, but have them pinpoint the problem. Low refrigerant could be the culprit. Pressure switch may be bad and therefore keeping compressor from cycling, compressor clutch could be dead. Make sure you find someone trustworthy. When my truck had problems this summer with A/C everyone quoted me about $1200 to replace entire system. Took it to a local shade tree guy and he said it's just low on refrigerant. Charged the system, and it works just fine now. Good luck getting to the bottom of your problem. Just out of curiosity, why did you think EGR valve would help A/C performance. Or, was that an unrelated side job?

sounds like your just low on refridgerant (Sp?) have it topped up and see if it solves the problem, you did say 365 days a year... thats like 20 times the days of ac use my car sees (Canada, Toronto) hell even on hot days i just cruise with the windows down...... piiiimmmmppppppp

ok ok im gonna get off and get back to my essay... its 1:20am and as my msn name says as i signed off a few minutes ago "at calumet writin' an essay, while girls across the hall is gettin crunk and dancin' to reggae".

who else here goes to york university?

(boom07) wtf to most of the above eh, lol.

Lol. Thanks guys.

Well, driving today, as soon as I turn my car on, my temp needle jumps to H. I didn't even warm up the motor or anything... I drive to my work place, pop the hood and everything is cool, no smoke or anything. I have a metal radiator fluid can and it is usually hot to touch, but I could open the cap and touch it, just showing that my motor didn't get too hot IMO.

Well, tonight, I just removed the EGR, reinstalled it, unplugged some sensors and plugged them back in (just incase). I reset my PCM and yes, my car is running fine now. Kind of wierd. Well, really wierd.

I think the problem is my gasket. When I installed the EGR the first time, the gasket had a small hump on it that I didn't notice. I made the hump go towards the manifold instead of the EGR itself. If that was the problem, that is a very minute detail to cause so much headache. If not, maybe something wasnt plugged in right...

Yes, probably a stupid mistake. You live and you learn I guess. Thanks to everyone who posted in here or who even read this.

We will see what happens tomorrow.

Peace
