AC COMP- Loud ticking noise

so my AC is makes a loud ticking noise very rapidly after its been on for abotu a minute, the freon is at around 40psi and while ticking the needle on the gauge jumps. So my question is that I think I need a new AC compressor? well I found some remanufactured ones here

so does anyone have any input? and maybe has anyone had problems with their AC? btw while it is on it doesnt blow cold at all.

the clutch might be bad...there are a couple people doing part outs of their cars so you could get one cheap off them.

Yea I would look at the clutch if I were you. Mine actually fell off.

I have the same ticking sound too, I took a wuick look and noticed the fan was nicking the shroud, never got around to really looking into it yet tho.

The clutch when it goes bad normally rattles pretty loud. And normally you cant buy a clutch, you just buy the whole compressor. Make sure you drain/measure oil accordingly from old compressor when installing new one. If it has less then 1 ounce out of it I beilieve it is 2 ounces of new you add in the new compressor. If it is over 1 ounce then you put the same amount in. As for the noise though it sounds like it is a lubrication problem within the compressor, like low oil/lack of flow. Make sure to change the Orfice tube. It very well could be your whole problem from being clogged.

alright how hard is that to change out? isnt the orfice tube also known as the expansion valve? also im kind of new to replacing AC's but I know people that can help me but how do you check the fluid that you take out?

When you remove the compressor hold it upside down over a small measuring cup with ounces on it or you can just pour in a cup. Then pour it into like something that is like 1 or 2 ounces. Turn the compressor clutch several times to pump the fluid through make sure its all out. The orfice is a small filter tube that goes inline by the dryer assembly. You unscrew the very large nut that combine the lines together and use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull it out. Make sure you replace it back with the same color orfice tube.

If anything grap a stethascope, fire the car up and start checking. An AC compressor has a few different types of models. Most use a small piston and just like an engine if it loses oil its gonna tick. I might still have mine lying around. Ill check to see if I can find my AC compressor. It worked just fine for me.
