absinth?

I just came back from London and had a taste of absinth and quite enjoyed it. Now it is supposed to be illegal in the U.S. to ship it in, but some websites say you can. I was wondering if anyone had any legitimate websites or experience with this.

ok, well "absinth" technically is illegal in the states... something about those halluciniginc things or whatnot...


But, you can get "absynthe" which is basically a purified version of teh same stuff without the halluciniginic things that will supposedly make you go crazy over time.. Look around at any high dollar liquor stores and you should be able to find it...

Edit: we have some a couple months ago.. I think the bottle was only like $25 for a 5th. not bad at all for how rocked we got

If you can make it up to NJ - I know someone who imports Absinth, she charges $360 a bottle. We got some for a friends party a few years ago. Honestly I think there are much better things to spend money on.

Call me ghetto, but I'd rather a spliff and a six pack.

YEah. And absinthe is REALLY bad for you. The hallucinogenic effect comes from the damage it does to the base of your brain. But then, regular alcohol isnt exactly good for you either.

Interesting s***. You can get it pretty cheap through polish exporters. Dont know if any of them have websites, though.

I got some absynth from Czech Republic, its not illegal in canada anymore don't know for US. And that hallucinogenic stuff, i've been wasted a couple of times on it, and havn't had any hallucinations. But its extremely strong.. ( 70% ) and tastes like s***

I got 700ml of absynth bottle for like 15$ in Czech Republic ( 70% one ). I should start a shop here. 360$ jesus christ !

apparently chzech absinth isnt that good because it only has like 8mg/kg of thujone (the hallucinagen) while the swiss recipes have like 55 mg/kg and the french ones have like 30 mg/kg. my friends and i want to at least try it on like a special occasion, its just starting to become such a hassle to get it.

I have had a bit of absinthe when I lived in germany..s*** is great..The Tea is the best..(wormwood derived tea)..You can make your own, wouldn't suggest it, but head to NYC (east village/mcdougal) they sell it. For my money, just buy some trips, some beers and get blunted..that works for me

Absinthe you get in Canada does not have the hallucinogenic chemicals.

True absinthe is distilled directly from wormwood, and is relatively expensive because yield is not that high. Other distilled "absinthes" may contain some wormwood-distilled products, but may also contain pure grain alcohol.

Much like many vodkas sold in the US are grain alcohol based (and not pure potato vodkas). Look for "Potato Vodka" when you buy. It tastes totally different from Smirnoff, Popov, Skyy, etc.

I believe one of the better true absinthes produced today is Swiss LaBleue and is pretty pricey.

I did some research on the topic a while back, and there are some importers around who take regular trips to Europe and come back with absinthe to sell.

In general, you'll pay out the nose and if they get stopped at customs, you lose your money.

Be extremely wary of companies that claim they are willing to ship you true absinthe from Europe or other places - many times they are scam artists who know you won't be able to file a legal claim, because you requested illegal items.
