ABS Problems

I'm having a problem with my ABS light and brake warning light comming on. I don't really care about those, but the real problem is that The ABS keeps kicking in randomly when braking. Been trying to figure out what could be wrong (new brakes, not seized). I ended up taking out the ABS fuse to get rid of the problem.

I've been having the same problem. I topped up my fluid, just did my brakes all around last week, both rears were seized (headache). It's been on before that and went out after I did my brakes and bled the lines but it has come back on again. From reading the forums, it could be a faulty abs module or wheel speed sensor. Not sure tho.

mine was doing this for a really long time. i basically said *F* it and pulled the fuse. i hate abs.

when i come to a stop at the top of a hill, roll over and there's a stop sign at the bottom of said hill and i shake, shimmy and clunk all the way down the hill and through the bloody sign into the street where thankfully there was no on coming traffic - i know abs isn't for me.

where's the bloody control over low speed braking? forget abs.

now i just need to figure out a way to trick the fuse holder into thinking there's a fuse there so the lights go out.

Bad wheel sensor.

When a wheel sensor starts failing it can start giving false reading (ie wheel is locked and skidding). This causes the ABS to cycle and you get really crappy braking.

Most manufacturers have a special scan tool to diagnose which wheel sensor is the problem, or you can figure it out through trial and error.

Kinda figure it's a wheel speed sensor. Brake fluid is full (alway has been). Tried a few OBDII code readers, but they seemed to only pull engine codes. Will probably take it to the local Mazda dealer... I used to work there after all.

Pulled the ABS fuse, now have the lights. The ABS light isn't a huge problem (just take out the bulb), is there any way of getting the brake warning light to go away without getting rid of it (I have a standard, so I use the e-brake alot)

"Codes can be retrieved using the following method. Under the hood to the rear of the left front strut tower you will see a small 2"x3" gray box that should say diagnosis on it. Open the top and you will see a pattern of two places where a connector might fit. . The connector will look lilke this

Get a small jumper wire and a paper clip and ground the pin that has the 'x' in it. Now turn the ignition key to run and watch the abs warning light. It will come on for 3 seconds and then out for two seconds. It will then flash you a two digit failure code. Long flash(s) of 1.2 seconds followed by short flash(s) of .4 seconds. The long flashes are the first digit and short flashes are second digit (ie 4 long flashes followed by 2 short flashes would be a code 42. Once one code is output the light will go off for 4 seconds and then either flash you any other codes or repeat if there is only one. Try this and then post with the code you get. Would post what they all mean but there are 31 different codes and I am tired of typing already. Good luck and make sure only ground the specified pin. Can cause damage to electricals if grounding wrong one."
