About Technology Package

Okay, here's a question...

I don't need a navigation system (use a laptop-based one) - more important to me is a kick-butt stereo that will allow both satellite radio and iPod integration. I don't want a 6 CD-Changer (we don't even listen to CDs anymore), but the bose system sounds nice.

Does it make sense to get the MOONROOF/BOSE/6CD CHANGER option, skip the Tech package, and then go for car stereo like one of these:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-3jioiK9oslG/cgi-bin/ProdGroup.asp?g=286350&avf=N

or one of these:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-3jioiK9oslG/cgi-bin/prodgroup.asp?g=247450&l=&avf=Y&o=v#see_all

Any recommendations on car stereos that offer Sirius and iPod ability?

Any recommended aftermarket systems that offer both + navigation (open to it if it does all three).

ps. Is it possible to get the MAZDA ADVANCED KEYLESS ENTRY AND START SYSTEM withOUT the tech package???

no....its only available in the Tech package that will also include bose/moonroof/navi/rear camera/6 disc.

Thanks for the reply B1GHAM. These forums aren't too busy, eh? Guess the CX-7 is just too new.

I THINK I've found a solution... not absolutely sure yet. I may skip the Tech package and give up the moonroof (stupid that the moonroof is included in a "tech" package) unless I can convince the dealer to install it without the other stuff. I'll also have to give up advanced keyless entry/ignition and just live with the stock keyless entry. Kinda sucks cause I like the advanced system, but again, because they bundle it, I lose.

Instead, I'll take the money I save and put it into a kick-butt aftermarket system I found. Talked to an audio pro tonight and he has an amazing touch-screen system that has navigation with live traffic, satellite radio, ipod capability, blue-tooth, backup camera, and CD/DVD changer. With all new speakers and the whole unit it'll cost me a little less than the Tech Package, and I'll get more of what I want. He'll even customize a "cover" for me so I'm less likely to attract thieves. I did a photoshop mockup tonight to see how the dash would look with the system and I think it will integrate well into the CX-7 :)

I'll know more tomorrow after I actually go and test-drive.

you can still get the moonroof/bose with 6cd as a SEPARATE package in leui of the tech. package.

also a thought to consider.... I havent looked into it on the CX-7s but I know with the RX-8s and the Mazda 6 (new) MS6 that you cant (or have HUGE difficulty) put an aftermarket system in due to the Climate controls. If the bose is removed, the climate controls become inoperable. Now I havent taken a look into how/why this is the case and Im not sure if it affects the CX-7 but thats one thing you should search around and get an answer on before you make your decision

I'm not sure what the climate control would have to do with the Bose radio, considering you can get the vehicle with two completely different types of bose systems, or the stock am/fm radio. I'll look around and see if I can find picture of the RX-8 or the 6 with custom radios, but I've gotta say I'm pretty sure it can be done.

When I was at Mazda today I mentioned to the saleswoman my intentions and she didn't even blink. Apparently, I'm not the first to balk at lack of iPod support.

BTW, I decided to buy the car. Now it's just a matter of with Moonroof/Bose or without. I'm leaning towards without.

Just an update... in doing some research at Crutchfield, it looks like NOTHING fits the RX-8... but for the CX-7 there's quite a lot that fits, or fits with modifications.

Update: Crutchfield got more information about the CX-7 this weekend. It has now been placed into the "M" category for being the hardest to modify for aftermarket systems. A lot of systems that would fit as of Friday are no longer considered compatible at all :(

I'm having a hard time here! LOL

Crotchfelt rarely has the sizes correct.

As said in another thread, pull the door panels and start measuring.

I also laid out a kickazz system in a thread you posted in.
