So this is a feel good thread, and....
I want to start off by saying how much I love this little car we've got.
Tonight I was in StarBucks line, getting tomorrow mornings high octane, when I struck up a conversation with a guy about coffee in South America. The topic was how much better it is, then whats available here. Just so you guys dont stop right there.... the converstaion WAS about coffee, not other "natural" high octane boosters available in the south of our hemispere.
The guy was with his wife on a Saturday night, and seemed very educated, professional, maybe mid fifties.
Well, when I leave after him, he and his wife are sitting on the patio as I walk to my car. As I get close he calls out to me about how much he loves my car. Apparently hes read all the articles and was excited just seeing one in person for the first time. Then we struck up a conversation about it. I told him about my CAI... future plans.. dyno to the wheels.. a couple run-ins on the street. And the guy just doesnt want to leave. Next hes sitting in it and I offer him a drive. Thats when his little boy giddishness left and he realized that he needed to chill out and finish his coffee with his wife. But it took about ten minutes..... before my car quit mesmerizing him.
During the conversation, I learned he drove a Caddy STS. He was bitter about it, as he had enjoyed British sportscars in his youth.(Im assuming his bitterness was only temporary as he had only now come face to face with the "formidable magazine racer" hed been reading about). His wife and he were in a new Acura MDX, which he gamely tried to defend as their "practical" second car, despite the fact that their kids were grown.
All this leads me to the fact that this "little hatch sleeper car" is the nuts. I felt for him, because I was driving a 06 GS430 this time last year, and this guy had almost 100K locked up in his cars as well. They're just not worth it if you are an enthusiast at heart. Ive never enjoyed a car so much and the attention it draws occasionally like this makes it all brand new again. It is so "worth" the supposed "step down". Also, I cant help but think that if it was a SRT-4, or a WRX, or some Honda, or Mustang or whatever.... that it never would have received a second glance. This thing is special and those that LOVE cars all know about it.
Im just glad Ive got one. Screw my old Lexus, I wouldnt trade my 3 for two.
