So this is a feel good thread, and....

I want to start off by saying how much I love this little car we've got.

Tonight I was in StarBucks line, getting tomorrow mornings high octane, when I struck up a conversation with a guy about coffee in South America. The topic was how much better it is, then whats available here. Just so you guys dont stop right there.... the converstaion WAS about coffee, not other "natural" high octane boosters available in the south of our hemispere.:) The guy was with his wife on a Saturday night, and seemed very educated, professional, maybe mid fifties.

Well, when I leave after him, he and his wife are sitting on the patio as I walk to my car. As I get close he calls out to me about how much he loves my car. Apparently hes read all the articles and was excited just seeing one in person for the first time. Then we struck up a conversation about it. I told him about my CAI... future plans.. dyno to the wheels.. a couple run-ins on the street. And the guy just doesnt want to leave. Next hes sitting in it and I offer him a drive. Thats when his little boy giddishness left and he realized that he needed to chill out and finish his coffee with his wife. But it took about ten minutes..... before my car quit mesmerizing him.

During the conversation, I learned he drove a Caddy STS. He was bitter about it, as he had enjoyed British sportscars in his youth.(Im assuming his bitterness was only temporary as he had only now come face to face with the "formidable magazine racer" hed been reading about). His wife and he were in a new Acura MDX, which he gamely tried to defend as their "practical" second car, despite the fact that their kids were grown.

All this leads me to the fact that this "little hatch sleeper car" is the nuts. I felt for him, because I was driving a 06 GS430 this time last year, and this guy had almost 100K locked up in his cars as well. They're just not worth it if you are an enthusiast at heart. Ive never enjoyed a car so much and the attention it draws occasionally like this makes it all brand new again. It is so "worth" the supposed "step down". Also, I cant help but think that if it was a SRT-4, or a WRX, or some Honda, or Mustang or whatever.... that it never would have received a second glance. This thing is special and those that LOVE cars all know about it.

Im just glad Ive got one. Screw my old Lexus, I wouldnt trade my 3 for two.

Nice story. I have no stories yet. I don't really think I could trade my MS3 for anything. I love the sleeper look to much. The car does not attrack attention.

You could tell his mind was spinning that HARD. He mentioned that his Caddy was high mileage and used for business.... and he hadnt had a problem with it yet. As he said it you could tell it hurt him to use the same argument with me that his wife used with him. He repeated it twice as if maybe it would sound better the second time but we both knew it didnt.

I think thats why he lingered. He knew this was as close as he was gonna get. As a successful businessman, or whatever he was.... it just wouldnt "have fit", for him to represent himelf in a suped up little station wagon. And for most people in that position, little boy craving doesnt win out anymore over perception.

When I traded my 430, my wife thought Id been lying to her about our financial position. She literally had to be convinced that I wasnt just now letting her know we were slam broke and the house was next.

It was funny how she felt about it. She gave me tons of grief about my previous cars and the expense of them and then when I got the MS3... she thought we were broke, or I was crazy, or both. She just couldnt "get it". I guess it just takes the guts of a kid, to start acting like one again.

I know what you mean!!! I went from a Jaguar Vandenplas to the MSP3. I have taken some grief from friends etc. But you know what? I have more fun driving this little hot rod than I ever did with the Jag. MUCH less expensive and MUCH more fun!(cabpatch)

Yeah unfortunatley an MS3 probably wouldn't convey the right perception of a saleman to his customer. Caddy's convey class and success to many people. Mazdas aren't a measure of success :-)

People are weird

Amazing how people measure up others based on what they drive. In many cases it's a superficial measurement. I look at the incredible number of BMW 3 series around and I think "lease" "Worried about image". What's funny is that I wanted a BMW bad for years. Now I could car less (well maybe if I could afford an M5).

That's why I love our Mazdas, they're exclusive without being pretentious. Fun while being reliable. They also look great and have personality.

Great story. Ive only had one guy approach me and it was at a gas station. He to read articles on the car and was excited to see one in person. He was really impressed with the gloss on my paint, but i wouldnt tell him what i use! lol

My truck is the conversation starter but there is still hope out there the MS3 will do the same!

Not only is this car quick from a roll and quick around turns but we can haul a lot of stuff in it too! This weekend I was helping my sister move into her new house, me in my ms3 and her in her saturn vue. We could almost fit the same amount of stuff in the back of my hatch as the back of her suv :) Plus all the boxes gave me about a 2" drop. With a few hundred pounds of books and furniture this car still had enough torque to launch (burnout)

The entire afternoon my sister was praising my little ride saying how cool it looked and how impressed she was with the space. On the 200 mile drive back home 70 mph cruise control the entire way I was making 35 mpg! If I keep this up I am looking at a 400 mile tank of gas (cabpatch) How do you like them apples!
