A/C Recharge...Now...Engine lags

2003 Mazda Protege5
Hey all, I have been floating around the boards since 2008 and never thought to post a question until now...

I have a Protege5 with 86k. I recently replaced the r134a in the little car and since then I am having an RPM loss of 500rpms or higher when driving around town. So much so, that there is an obvious lag and then return of power every 4 or 5 seconds. And during those times, the compressor stops producing a cold return of air.

I do not have this problem when the car is running cold only when the car has been driving around for a bit or has been sitting in direct sunlight.

Also the ambient temperature here has been around 100F degrees, so...its been really hot.

I am dumbfounded at this. Any thoughts?

PS - I do not experience any loss of power or compressor temps when at idle.

Cheers!

yeah this is a strange one.. If it started after you had a recharge then maybe the shop over charged it.. Ive been to a few shops where they will just try and add a 1/4 pound and not fully discharge the system.. If i remember the system max is 1.5 pounds..

good luck

i had this happen in my civic when i had a shop recharge it. I went back to them and they took some out or drained it and added a little less and it took care of the engine lag.
