Anyone have a service manual around? If so, can you please tell me what the 90,000mi service entails? I seem to have misplaced mine. I'm going to do it myself with the help of a good friend (who owns her own automotive repair shop).

Thanks!

Hi racer chick,

I work in a shop and according to mitchel on line, the only thing calledf for at 90k is oil change,air filter and plugs. the only thing you might think about replacing at 90k besides those items is the timing belt if you didnt replace it a 60k. As well, by now your serp. belts are probably needing replacement if not already done. I own an 02 protege dx and nothing else needed replacement by the time I hit 90k.
Good luck.

Oh so it's just the oil change, air filter, plugs and maybe the serpentine belts? What are the serpentine belts? And are they difficult to change? I feel silly asking since I am having someone help me but at least I'll be better prepared. Wait, aren't the serpentine belts typically changed with the timing belt? I had that done at 58,000 mi. Do I still need to change them?

Your response sounds a lot more reasonable than what my local Mazda Dealership suggested. They wanted $450. to perform the 90,000mi service and most of it was just "checking on things." I am not going to pay that kind of money to have someone quickly eye ball my car. These morons just did a full service inspection done less than a week ago and everything came back great.

Thanks Again!

Proteges don't have "serpentine" belts. Instead, they just have regular drive belts. There's 2 of them. Gatorback makes some good belts that are reasonably priced.

What type of transmission do you have? If you have an auto- definitely do a DIY flush (search the How-To forum on this board) with some good synthetic fluid.

You may also want to do a coolant change.

Rotate your tires.

Inspect your brakes.

Lube your door/trunk hinges.

Wash it- exterior, engine, interior.

Manual Transmission

I emailed my local Mazda Dealership about the 90,000 mi service and listed below is what they suggested:

* Change oil & filter; check all fluids, lights, belts & hoses
* Check coolant condition & protection
* Rotate and balance tires
* Inspect tire condition & set tire pressures to spec.
* Inspect brakes
* Lube hinges & locks
* Check all front end and steering components including ball joints & sway bar
* Inspect drive shaft CV boots
* Perform physical inspection of all brake lines, hoses & connections
* Replace cabin air filter
* Replace air filter
* Perform BG battery service
* Perform BG K24 fuel induction service
* Change transmission fluid (drain & fill)
* Perform BG power steering fluid flush
$589.45

^-- Is it me or does all that seem a bit pricey? I've already had most of the things listed like the coolant and the power steering fluid flushed and changed last year so I probably don't need to do it again for a while. Right?

Also, what is the BG K24 fuel induction service? Alone this costs $165. Is it worth it?

I appreciate any and all help. Thanks!
