88 Rx7

An RX-7 can be made very reliable....

with Pistons!!! (peep)

J/K J/K Seriously, it is most likely that this car needs TLC in the amounts that the cost of entry is just a fraction of what is to come. Hell, I bought my '90 Accord for $250 and it has already cost me over $2,000 in repairs and maintenance (upper control arms, brakes, etc.). Now, throw in some old, rough rotary engine in there.

I finally had to tow it to a "rotary specialist" 6 hours away to get the job done right.

that is the statement to end the thread on. you can't just go right down the road and ask anyone to build the motor for you. a specialist is the way to go and they are all pretty expensive, if you are lucky enough to find one local. you could rebuild the motor yourself, but you would still want to send the rotors off for apex seals, send the housings off for dowel work, and you still wouldn't have anyone to warrant the motor. stick with pistons for a cheap DD.

Thanks for all the input everyone. The car was sold elsewhere before I could even go ride it so hearing your comments make me glad I didn't get it. Maybe I'll find an old 300z or as some of youu mentioned, and old accord or civic. I've never been a big Honda fan, but I'm not a hater.

Rx7s are supposed to smoke a lil on startup they have oil injectors that inject oil into the housing to lubricate so if it didnt smoke a lil on startup ide be worried. I daily drove a 88 TII for 2 years with 166K miles on the stock engine and never had one single problem and when i pulled the engine to do the half bridge build it still had 100psi compression on each housing.
