Well I crawled under my 3 yesturday to do another oil change and I found a few things that kinda disturbed me first off was some oil on the cv axle, i dont know if it splashed from else where or is coming out from the axle itself see pic below...it wasn't but a mere few drops of oil...i will be keeping an eye on this...btw my 3 hatch is a 2006 and only 3mos old so its under warranty...i prefer to keep the stealerships hands off of her...

The other thing was when I was removing the oil filter I noticed the threads inside the housing were chewed up from the get go, I believe this was true on the first oil change and I just hadn't take a good look at it, wonder if this will hurt anything??? Should I have the dealership replace the oil filter mount or just leave it??? the pic is borrowed but show the threads that i am talking about. anyone else experience this?

the oil on the axle i wouldn't be to worried about yet... it was only a few drops and you did clean it up so just keep your eye on it... also look up from there is there a place (say where you put the engine oil) that it could have leaked from on the last oil change??

as far as the threads on the filter it is just plastic screwing into metal so it isn't a big deal as long as it threads in and tightens up without any hassle.. if you feel it keeps cross threading or isn't tightening correctly then i would bring it in, thats a part that is easily changed out if they can't clean the threads up.

the filter housing seals up nice and tight with no leaks atleast so far....yeah oil may have splashed from the drain pan when i drained it...but not for sure i will keep an eye on it and make sure...

I had the same thing, took it to dealership and they said it was from an oil change. Sounded weird but I just had the oil changed a few days before I noticed the oil. They cleaned it off and I havent seen it again,

I was also thinkin it could be the passanger motor mount oil, but they assured me it wasnt.

Be sure to post what it is if its not from an oil change.

did another oil change today....guess what i found more oil there...so i am assuming that the cv axle passes thrrough this object and should have grease in it not oil...but maybe its oil?!? who knows... i ll run it by the dealership when i get a chance...being its under warranty i m not too worried...except if there is something wrong ill be pissed about my new car...but if anyone else has any info or help post up
