70 durameter mounts

Guys,
You have to install one mount at a time. This has been said countless times. One mount at a time will allow that mount to break in and after a few weeks, intall the rear. Installing both at the same time takes longer for the mounts to break in and causes a lot of vibration.

This is the first time anyone has mentioned this to me. Not that it would have mattered much. With torn front and rear factory mounts and my tranny out of the car, both were going in anyway. I'm still trying to figure out how urethane is going to break in. My oldest skate board is right at 20 years old and so are the 85 durometer urethane wheels. How come they haven't turned to jello after 3 years of heavy use and 17 more of occasional use? :)

I personally preach it. They bushings will break in and lessen the vibration when put in seperately. I do not have much experiance with skateboards... :)

Thanks for the glimmer of hope, but I did put them in one at a time. I drove for a couple hundred miles on the front mount before putting in the second one.

It seems there is no hope that this will get better (bang) I think this car hates me. It's like it's allergic to gasoline, oil, and anti-freeze.

i replaced the front and rear 88 durometer bushings i had with the 70 durometer a couple weeks ago. i cant tell the difference.

hey tallrd, i have the same rattles you do at startup and i dont even have my mounts installed yet.

Let's run through the sequence of events:

1) MSP kills tallrd's patience

2) tallrd kills own MSP

3) car comes back to life as a pedestrian that disobeys a "do not walk" sign which causes tallrd (in newer, more reliable car) to swerve and run into someone else driving another MSP, thus totalling their MSP.

4) other driver finds out MSP air bags are only thing that work and thanks tallrd for saving him the trouble of killing own MSP out of sheer frustration.

5) the end

ROFL! Is this a true story?

not yet. i jsut fiiled my torn front mount with window weld...it takes time to get dry.
So i did put in both 70 mounts at once tho..
The vibration is bad when AC is on

what are your mounts filled with ?

Nos:

I filled my front OEM mount with a GE silicone product. I filled the mount in layers, and let each layer dry for several days before the next layer was added, until finally the mount was fully filled. With just the filled mount, I still had some engine lashing that I didn't care for, but it was certainly an improvement over stock.

I added the Weapon-R engine damper after that, and have been very happy with the combination of the two. In installing the Weapon-R damper, I preloaded it by extending the piston beyond the length necessary, a process that I recommend in that it controls engine movement better. Note that some members have had a specific problem with the damper (I have not), but it has since been upgraded with no reported problems as far as I know.

I am of the opinion of several others of you, namely, that the AWR front motor mount (whether with the 70 or 88 durometer bushings) creates too many vibrations in the cabin for my tatstes, especially with the lights and/or AC on. I should also add that even after the mount was broken in (what little brake-in there was), it never resulted in reduced cabin vibrations in my experience. Finally, I found that the AWR mounts to created less vibration the warmer the weather.

for better or worse, no. However, given the history of this car, it's either that or it's going to "Christine" my ass into paranoid psychosis.

Why haven't I sold this car?...

because I'm a glutton for punishment (and when it works, it's fun as hell to drive).
