626 Remote Start

Had my 98 626 at Circuit City trying to get a remote start installed. After all day they gave up saying their was some peculiarity in that they couldn't get it to work unless the key was in the ignition.
Is this just a peculiarity with this car?
Anyone have an after market remote start installed in a 98 626? what type?

Thanks

Not to sound too harsh, but I wouldn't let Circuit City install anything.....

Find a competent tech to do the job. You'll pay more, but at least you'll get it done right.

I am not 100% familiar with the 626, but if it has a security type ignition key with a chip, or other device in it, then yes it does have to be in the ignition before the ECM recieves a signal to enable the fuel and ignition to work. Bypassing it may not work, or disable other things in the process.

Good luck....

any decent audio shop can use an extra key in line with the stock system to enable a remote start. pretty sure the 1998 626 did not have a chip key system however, so i would guess it is something else.

circuit city installed a radio in my high school car and the idiot tech left a pair of phillips head screw drivers in the dash that rattled around until i found them a year later after losing my mind and tearing the inside apart to find a noise.

according to bulldogsecurity.com the '98 626 did come with a transponder key. I recommend you buy your remote starter and bypass module from them. Both devices will come out pretty cheap and they offer a chart listing all the wires needed to tap in case you want to do it yourself. When I bought mine thats who I went with, but I went through amazon.com to buy the items cause they do come out a lot cheaper.

And yeah, dont use any big name department store like best buy or circuit city to install anything for you, those people dont know crap and will most of the time end up screwing up your electrical.
