Hello to you all and than you for reading this. I hope to learn a lot from the collective knowedge here. Thanks in advance!!!
I have a 1993 V6 2.5 626 that has been a nightmare. It was sitting parked for 2 years without being started and I am now driving it. The first sysmptom was the CEL coming on after the car runs for a few minutes. The second symptom is that the car shuts off when I get off the highway after driving 80mph for about 20 to 30 mins. Sometimes it even shuts off when I'm slowing down on the highway at about 50 MPH.
When the car shuts off, I have to wait anywhere from 20 seconds to 2 minutes before I can start it again, otherwise it just sounds like I'm out of gas.
After learning how to check the codes from reading this forum, I retrieved codes : 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 25, 28, and 41 all at the same time. (I was there for a while.) I was shocked at this and then removed the battery cable to clear the memory and did the test again. This time I came up with codes 28 and 41 only. I did some looking around to find out what the VRIS looks like, and checked the vacum near the EGR and noticed that the top of the rubber piece was rotted.
Is this rotted pump thingy the cause of my problem? Does the EGR solenoid also have a problem? does EGR solenoid in code 28 mean the whole EGR valve?
I tried to remove the EGR to clean it, but I could not find a good angle to remove the pipe at the bottom had no success removing it. Instead I removed and cleaned the trhottlebody and ran seafom through the PCV and in the gas tank to try and clean the EGR. Will this work?
I am going to add some seafom to the oil and try to run some cleaner through the MAF sensor to see if I can at least spread out the shutdowns.
I get stuck on the road for about 2 mins every day. This has been happening about 2 weeks now since I started driving the car. All my efforts to resolve my problem have given me a little bit better gas mileage where I'm up to about 315 to 320 Miles from the full tank.
Sorry for being lengthy, but I wanted to paint a good picture.
Thanks again for your support.
